Harper's Island

Oh, goddamn you, you stupid murder-mystery show, you are not supposed to make me cry this way.

Goddammit, goddammit, goddammit. I should have known better than to think Cal's brush with death last week was going to be enough. Damn. Did they *have* to kill off my favorite character?

Seriously, I am still crying. I didn't even know I was that invested in this show. Dammit! RIP Cal.I love that you proposed right before you died, even though I was screaming at you at the time not to put down your gun. And Chloe, I was seriously impressed by the way you chose not to let Wakefield win, though I would have been even more impressed if they had let you fight him and seriously injure him or something.

John Wakefield, I seriously want to beat you to death with a shovel. I can't remember hating a fictional character this much since Dolores Umbridge. On the other hand, you're pretty mustache-twirly. I hope the finale is going to at least give us some motivation for your murderous rampage? Otherwise, I'm going to have to say, CKR, you need to get a better agent and some roles that are a little less cartoony. Hell, the gay mafia body-stealing villian role you had in the X-files movie had a little more motivation than Wakefield's been given.

Ok, [livejournal.com profile] starry_dawn, I have to admit you were right about Shane--deep down he was a good guy who saved a bunch of lives, at least temporarily. Actually, one thing I do like about this show is that as we count down to the end, they've been giving a lot more character development to previously minor characters, which I both love and hate. It adds a lot of depth to the story-line, but it's going to be a lot harder to see Sully and Danny die in the finale--and I'm sure they will--now that I like them both. I'm not certain who else will die--it's bound to be several people--but I'm certain they're not going to survive, if Chloe and Cal didn't.

Jimmy is looking like the prime suspect for working with Wakefield, but I'm not sure they would have dropped that hint so broadly at the end if it was going to be him for real. If it's Henry, though, I'm going to be sad. I'd still be ok if it turned out to be Shea! Or Trish would be a kind of cool twist.

I'm kind of excited it's a 2 hour finale--I might (knock wood, barring plane delays) actually get to see it live, and I was thinking I'd have to wait to catch up since I'll be travelling the weekend of the 4th.

I was yelling "NOOOOOOO!" on Twitter. Cal and Chloe: :(, but I liked their ending.

I'm still hoping Jimmy is Wakefield's accomplice. I think that would be awesome - and I think it's possible. They only have two hours of show left, which is definitely little enough time for it to be a hunt without too many twists.

On the topic of their commitment to horror movie tropes: I love the way Wakefield is systematically eliminating the guns. I suspect it'll come down to Abby as the Final Girl stabbing Wakefield and/or his accomplice, preferably with his own knife.

I'm sad we have to wait two weeks for more, but at least then we'll get to see the last two eps all at once!

I'm glad that if they had to die, it wasn't just one of them. I was really worried about how Cal was going to survive Chloe's death, or vice versa. (Actually I may have to download the episode and rewatch that; I haven't been taping these, because I didn't think I was that invested in the show, but I did find their particular storyline very moving).

I would really love for it to be Jimmy, honestly. OR one of the people we think is already dead. I like Henry, so I don't want it to be him, and while I'm not particularly invested in Trish or Shea for themselves, if it's Trish it will devastate Henry, and if it's Shea that will really suck for Madison.

Like I said, I'm happy for the 2 weeks because it means I'm not behind the "fandom" (i.e. you and the other 3 people I know are watching!) when it comes to the finale. Plus, if they really conceived it as a 2-hour finale rather than as 2 separate episodes, for some reason that makes me think the deathcount may be lower.

I'd love to have Abby stabbing Wakefield to end this all. Or having to kill Jimmy, who's just killed his dad to save his girlfriend, only Abby doesn't see that as enough, considering his complicity in the death of her parents.

The moment Wakefield asked if Cal would die for Chloe, I knew that he was going to. And in some ways I'm sad about their deaths, but in others I'm happy that they're together.

Yeah, I had that same thought, but I was still holding onto a little bit of hope because he didn't kill Chloe right away. And I'm happy they died together, if they had to die.

SHAAAAANE! D: You know, I felt worse for his death than I did Cal's (even though I've loved Cal for ages), but I'm so happy they had him go out like a hero. He saved all the girls and he saved Trish's life in particular. Thank you, show!

They're doing a really good job making us really like all the characters before killing them off, aren't they? I already loved Cal and Chloe, but they are definitely redeeming everyone before slaughtering them. But I thought Cal and Chloe's ending was beautiful ... they went down together, and they stuck to each other till the end. I love that the writers gave us a truly genuine pairing on the show (that all of us were sure would crumble by the end) and stuck with it all the way through.

I'm worried about all the rest now. I'm truly invested in everyone at this point. I love Trish and Henry (but I fear my Henry suspicions may be rising again based on them overly emphasising Jimmy now), I love Danny and Sully ... ugh. I wouldn't mind if it was Shea, but somehow I don't see that happening. I don't know. I still think Jimmy's a possibility, but I'm just hoping now that whoever the killer is, the show goes out in style.

I am such a wimp. At this point, even though narratively it would be boring, I kind of wish Wakefield was responsible for all the deaths, because I would like Jimmy & Abby and Henry & Trish to be able to pull out some sort of happy ending from all of this, which I *know* won't happen.

I too am happy that at least Cal & Chloe were the real deal, and didn't end up betraying each other or something by the end of the show. But I still wanted them to survive. (WAAAAAHHHH!)

Shea is currently the least likeable surviving character so it would be nice if she was the killer, but since they didn't outright kill Madison I doubt that's going to happen. I was thinking about it last night, though, and thinking that the pattern of who has died and who has survived seems to me like it must be Henry. I mean, Danny and Sully have survived, and they're his friends; Cal and Chloe weren't, they were Trish's friends. Yet in terms of audience investment, I think most people liked Cal and Chloe more than Danny and Sully, so I suspect their connection to Henry is what made them survive this episode.
