What do you get when you combine literary theory with Star Trek porn? An awesome piece of hilarity: Reading Against, Reading With: Mastering the Oppositional Discourse in Textual Healing (Sulu/Chekov, Spock/Uhura, Kirk/McCoy, Spock/Uhura/Kirk). The title is almost longer than the story itself, but if you've ever had any exposure to literary theory, you will love this.

I really need a Star Trek reboot icon

Hey, my Star Trek novel loving friends! Do you know about the new community on Dreamwidth, which I have no idea how to code for on LJ, treknovelfest? They're currently asking for prompts for a new challenge for stories written in one of the novel-verses; crossovers or reimaginings with the Reboot universe are also very acceptable. Go here to submit prompts. You have until June 21 (which I suspect is going to send me to reread several of my favorite novels so I can come up with good prompts).

A very important question

What are we calling this new version of trek, oh fans? I need to be using something consistent for my tags. ST:XI? ST: 2009? Newtrek? NuTrek? Something else?

Beware, I expect the comments on this entry may contain spoilers.

Also, some people are already on the ball, collecting links to the newtrek comms: here (warning--also has spoilers for the film) and here (no spoilers).

Star Trek

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CAPSLOCK IN THE WORLD TO CONVEY THE DEPTH OF MY SQUEE FOR THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

And I have to profoundly thank everyone on my flist (and friendsfriends, so basically all of fandom on LJ) for being so careful about spoilers. My sum total of knowledge walking into the film was who was playing 2 of the characters, and I have never been so happy to be unspoiled in my whole life.
