BSG recs
I am not in any way jealous or bitter about you folks whose cable systems actually GET the scifi channel, or you other folks with non-Stoneage non-dialup internet access, who all are enjoying new episodes of Battlestar Galactica tonight. Not jealous at all. And just to prove my complete state of zen about BSG deprivation, I give you more BSG recs for beginners behind the cut.
For those of you just joining me, these are BSG recs for beginners because I am a complete newbie to the fandom and am just finding stories that have no doubt been recced by many folks before me. Also, because I know some folks on my flist have only seen season one, these are all recs that contain no spoilers past season 1.
Today's recs are not pairing-focused; they're more focused on stories that give us insight into the ordinary life of people in the BSG universe. These came from a challenge
butterflykiki did for "ordinary people's lives" last spring, which is archived here.
Lights a candle, character study of the new librarian of the fleet; very haunting. Not spoilery for anything past about 1.6.
rheanna27's Calliope; a very textured piece about one family ship in the Galactica convoy, with amazing original characters. Spoilers on through about 1.4.
Charis, Five Ways to Lose Your Faith (And one to find it). A heartbreaking piece about the emotional impact of the attacks on one survivor. Spoilers only for the first season.
