Harper's Island

Yes, I'm still watching. In fact, I think I'm actually hooked now, despite the fact that I fear CBS isn't even going to run all 13 episodes. Spoilers for last night's episode behind the cut.

Well, I really liked several things about the episode:

1. The ending. Because finally, finally, finally, after what is it, 5 episodes? And at least 7 deaths? They're going to all realize murder is happening. And I'm enough of a softie to be happy that Trish reconciled with her dad before he got killed. And it's fascinating how many suspects there are, too--killing him was brilliant because he's got so many apparent enemies, and the show has already established that more than one person is responsible for the deaths, which makes it all more interesting.

2. The scene in the middle where Abby finds out that her dad is actually John Winchester obsessed with Wakefield (which clearly means Wakefield isn't dead). Also I loved that her dad is apparently BFF with her ex. I started watching the show hoping Abby would end up with Henry, but now I'd be ok if she ends up with Jimmy (I think that's his name). It's a pity that her dad is almost certainly going to die.

3. So was crazy deformed German Shepard guy Wakefield? I think we're supposed to at least think that's a possibility. It would be interesting if we found out Wakefield is killing some of the people, for a specific reason centered around Richard Burgi's character (since he seemed to be prominent in the clippings in the sheriff's house), but there is another murderer at work as well.

4. How cool is it that CKR is Wakefield? I actually noticed that in last week's episode when Abby was looking at the newspaper clippings, but it was totally confirmed this week.

Edited to fix wonky paragraph formatting. WTF, LJ?

Yeah, I thought this episode was finally really reeling me in.

1. Do you think the killer was specifically targeting Richard Burgi? How could they be absolutely sure he would be the one under the chandelier?

2. *snicker* Totally John. Although I thought that was underplayed, especially for a show that's so overdone - Abby is remarkably calm about the photos of the dead woman (was that her mother?) on the bulletin board. Also, did it seem like she was looking for something in the box that was only sweaters? I loved Dad and Jimmy being friends too, and Abby's realization that Dad only didn't like Jimmy because she was dating him. Hee!

3. Crazy deformed German Shepard guy: I think he either has to be Wakefield (it was strongly implied) or have nothing to do with any of it (because it would be too obvious) - or, perhaps, he is Wakefield and he has nothing to do with it. I'd still be down for a Wakefield was never the murderer to begin with scenario. Ooh! Henry would be an awesome murderer. Have we seen him when any of the murders were taking place? (I'm pretty sure we saw Abby elsewhere while a murder was being committed a couple of episodes ago.)

4. CKR, whoo! (Of course, it is a show filmed in Canada; I think it's in their constitution that he has to appear in any show ever filmed there.)

1. Mom and I were wondering when someone else figured out that there were murders going on. Too many people were going MIA over too many days to stretch that out much longer.

2. I so had to bite my lip to keep from yelling out that Jim Beaver had to be channeling John Winchester.

3. I'm speculating on a Wakefield relative of some sort. That or this is going to be some sort of take off not of Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians, but instead the ABC murders where one murder was the objective and the other murders around it were to throw off the trail.

4. And yay that CKR is Wakefield! Which might explain if German Shephard guy is Wakefield, all the scarring.

Oh, for #1 I meant on the meta level--that it was brilliant that the writers decided his character should be the first to die publicly since there are so many suspects. Obviously the death itself, as staged, was random--it could have been any of the wedding party (or more than one of them)

#2 I thought Abby was calm at first, but when she actually saw her dad it was clear she was totally freaked. And I did wonder what it was she was looking for in the box of sweaters--maybe a special shawl? Blanket? Other item of clothing associated with her mom?

3. It would be COMPLETELY awesome if it turned out Wakefield didn't commit any of the original murders and was now mainly getting revenge on the Sheriff for shooting him. And I am starting to warm to the Henry-is-the-murderer theory, but I can't remember if he has an alibi for any or not.

1. Yeah, seriously. I was beginning to wonder if they'd all be dead before anyone figured out the murders were happening!

2. Hee! I bet all SPN fans watching for Jim or Katie had the same reaction

3. A Wakefield relative is a good theory, if he really is dead.

Oooh, that's an awesome theory. (Despite the fact that I think it's ridiculously cheesy, I am apparently rather invested in this show now!)

I just stumbled on this comment of yours because CKR...and I <3 your saying that about it being in the Canadian Constitution that he has to appear in any show ever filmed in Canada. (And it really just about does seem that way, and now even more so, this many years after your comment.)
