I haven't had a chance to watch Glee yet, but I do have some thoughts on Eastwick and Flash Forward. The upshot is I liked Eastwick better this week than last week, and I liked Flash Forward less this week than the pilot. More spoilery thoughts behind the cut:
There wasn't a lot of Paul Gross in this episode, but that was fine with me, because I actually really love both Roxie and Joanna, and enjoyed their storylines a lot. And both of them had a lot going on in this episode; in fact, I can't decide which storyline I liked better. Roxie's visions of her killer continue to be quite disturbing, and I was wondering if her friends were going to turn out to be right about their inaccuracy up until creepy guy branded himself. YIKES! That was seriously creeptastic! And yet I love the fact that they blended humor into that storyline, too (don't drool over my murderer! Hee!!), and it's going to be interesting to see what happens now that she thinks he might be an ok guy.
Clearly she and her daughter share a similar bad taste in men. I hate to say it, but I *loved* the fact that she got accidental vengeance on the near rapist. I'm not at all opposed to the ladies using their magic to go after men who authentically hurt them (though if I recall correctly, in the book this is part of what ends up damning them eventually).
And speaking of the consequences of magic: I loved Joanna's dogged investigation of Darryl, and how it turned up a connection between him, Bun, and Cybil Sheppard. (And Sheppard's character was a hoot--I hope she's a recurring character). I also loved the fact that she's *not* going after Will because she's sure she brainwashed him. I'm sure he really likes her anyway, but it's nice that she is being ethical about it.
I'm a little bored with the nurse's storyline, but I like the character well enough, so I just sort of tune out all her fights with her husband.
Since I like this show, I'm pretty sure it's going to be cancelled, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
Flash Forward
Ugh. If this show is just going to be the massive soap opera of how Fiennes' marriage breaks up, I am SO not interested. The parts of this I liked were (a) any scene with John Cho and (b)the bits of investigation/mystery we got. But the mystery is not going to be enough to keep me if we continue with the bad marriage soap opera, because I just don't CARE about Fiennes and his wife enough. I cared more about the woman cop that got killed--and who had maybe a minute of screentime total--than I do about the Fiennes marriage plot. The daughter is a little bit interesting, maybe, but bleah. Watching a marriage break up over the next six months is not my idea of fun. If next week's ep isn't better, I may start watching Bones at 8 p.m. instead.
