Blood Ties

Can't sleep--demons will eat me. In this case, demons of the common cold virus. So I watched "Blood Ties" hoping that after staying up really late to watch the whole thing I'd finally fall asleep.

I'm impressed to have found a show that outdoes even Smallville in the cheesiness factor! The series is of course based on the Blood Price/Blood Ties/etc. novels by Tanya Huff. I loved those books to death, though not so much for the horror plotlines (see P.I. Victory Nelson solve a series of supernatural murders assisted by vampire Henry Fitzroy and her ex-partner on the police force, Michael Celluci) as for the sexay that was Henry Fitzroy and the various love triangles in the series.

For Tanya Huff/Blood Ties fans

I thought I'd do a little pimping for "Blood Ties," since I think it's going to be my new guilty pleasure show. For those of you who haven't read the books by Tanya Huff, the series is about Vicki Nelson, a former cop who had to leave the force because of a medical condition affecting her vision. She's now a P.I., and as the series starts she gets her first of many cases investigating paranormal events. In the course of this, she encounters Henry Fitzroy, vampire and graphic novelist. (In the books he's a romance novelist, which I think is more fun, but oh well.) She also sometimes works with her former partner, Michael Celluci. The show is airing on Lifetime at 10 p.m. Sundays (I believe that's 10 p.m. Eastern time). I would not say this show is great art, but it is a lot of fun, and if you like cheesy vampire shows you will like this one.
