SPN big bang--even more recs
I went back and looked at my recs tag for last summer's big bang and noticed that I did the same thing I am probably doing this year: for the first 4 days or so I reviewed all the stories, and then I started posting only recs of stories I actually loved, at first three times a week or so and then gradually trickling down to once a week or so. So from here on out I'll probably only talking about the stories I either really liked or really hated.
epeeblade's For the Heart I Once Had (Jensen/JDM) is a sequel to her epic BDSM masterpiece from last year, set in the Sex Corps verse. (Links to that big bang and all the sex corps stories are in the master post of this story, if you haven't read them--and this really is a story where you need to know the 'verse, so I'd encourage that--though you can be a big chicken like me and skip the intermediate story, "Higher than Hope," in which Jensen experiences all the torture he's recovering from in "For the Heart I Once Had." I didn't even read the summary and I got along fine.)
Basically, Jensen is recovering from the physical and psychological torture he experienced in his last mission, and Jeff returns to see if he can salvage anything of their past relationship. Excellent h/c stuff--I especially loved that Jensen is wounded but not broken and that he plays the biggest role in his own recovery, but Jeff definitely helps. I also loved seeing more of Jared and Adrianne in this story, and meeting Jeff's parents.
_mournthewicked's A Spotlight on these desolate dreams (Jared/Jensen). This is a fun noirish (well, kind of noir-light) AU in which Jared is now a New York gumshoe (complete with fedora) whose past finally catches up with him when an old friend from LA, Sandy McCoy, is brutally murdered. Jared goes to investigate and must finally deal with his past--including Hollywood millionaire Jensen Ackles, who spurned his advances ten years ago but who seems to have changed his mind. Nice balance between the murder mystery, which is quite well done, and the romance plot.
