SPN recs

At the rate I'm reading, I'll probably be caught up on bigbang stories by December, but here are a few of them I have enjoyed recently:

Green Means Go (Jared/Jensen) by [livejournal.com profile] electricalgwen. Fantastic worldbuilding and a really gripping plot in this AU set in the Republic of Texas, where Jared is a spy on a mission when he catches a glimpse of his lover who has supposedly been dead for four years. Jensen has no memory of his past, and suddenly the two of them are on the run trying to find out who "killed" Jensen and why.

The Heavens Aligned Against Us (Sounds like a fair fight) (John/Mary, Sam/Dean) by [livejournal.com profile] clex_monkie89. Dean made a bet with the archangel Michael: if he was so sure destiny couldn't be changed, he should leave John and Mary with their memories intact after "The Song Remains the Same." So John and Mary desperately try to prevent the future they know is coming. I totally loved this AU--Mary is especially kickass and well-characterized--though I honestly could have done without the Wincest (which I always think of as a consequence of Dean and Sam having such fucked up childhoods, which they don't really in this--but YMMV).

Give Me a Place to Stand (Jared/Jensen) by [livejournal.com profile] thecoinbikini. For some reason when this was posted I just wasn't in the mood for another Secretary AU, but when I finally got around to reading it I enjoyed it. I liked watching Jensen negotiate the dynamics of his first d/s relationship, and while normally infidelity squicks me, his relationship with his boyfriend was so clearly over before anything started with Jared that it didn't bother me at all.

Holy Clockwork Angels (Jo/Ruby) by [livejournal.com profile] ghostrunner7. Not just a steampunk AU, which is a great concept in and of itself, but a Jo-centered steampunk AU with really fascinating worldbuilding. I LOVE the angels and demons in this universe. I would have liked some actual Jo/Ruby sex (there's one scene that's very erotically charged, but I am greedy and wanted more), but otherwise I really loved this.

The Sinister Nature of Cul-de-sacs (Jared/Jensen) [livejournal.com profile] fahrbot. Jensen is a professional landscaper recovering from his divorce who moves to a large house in the suburbs. His next-door-neighbor is a recluse, and his best friend, Aldis Hodge, has a running joke that the guy is a serial killer. Jared isn't dangerous, but there is a sinister secret in the neighborhood. The romance in this is fun, but the suspense is also excellent. I also kind of loved that Aldis got cast as the best friend in this, and Misha Collins has a hilarious bit part.

The Man in the Moon (Jared/Jensen) by [livejournal.com profile] misaganminion. An AU where Jensen is an ordinary doctor until a near-death experience awakens hidden psychic abilities, and suddenly he's seeing Jared, who's being held hostage by a serial killer. Basically, I liked it, though everyone in it recovers ridiculously quickly from gunshot wounds, stabbings etc. (I also was annoyed by who the killer turned out to be, but that was just a personal thing). I wish the author had taken the romance a little further than she did, though.
