Agents of SHIELD

I didn't think I had a lot to say--I generally liked the pilot but thought it had a severe case of pilot-itis, so I liked it less than I was expecting--but it turns out I do have more to say:

1. I wouldn't have guessed it was Joss writing based on the dialogue, but the fact that J.August Richards (who they should keep somehow!)and Ron Glass (who maybe they will keep, since he seems to be a SHIELD doctor?) probably would have made me think he had a role in the casting.

2. I loved Maria Hill in this. Is Cobie Smulders going to be a semi-regular, does anyone know, or is her How I Met Your Mother schedule too packed for that?

3. In general I loved seeing SHIELD headquarters and how everything ran. This is going to do interesting things to fanfiction, I'm sure--especially Coulson's characterization, of course (more on that below), but also in the way the bureaucracy is depicted, etc.

4. I was actually having trouble picturing Coulson loving Tahiti, so I liked his line to Maria about how it would make you want a mission. I am sad that it seems confirmed he is a LMD, but I'm sure fanwanking can take place. (Like: real Coulson is deep deep undercover in an op, so having 2 Coulsons is just efficient!) I also liked the ribbing he got about stretching the story about how long he was dead.

5. Coulson giving the injection to Agent Bland White Hero (sorry, I'm not going to learn his name until he stops being Bland White Hero, or BWH for short) instead of to hacker-girl was (a)brilliant, (b) funny, and (c)an excellent piece of characterization for Coulson not being a by-the-book thinker. [I'm not sure I'd want him as my direct supervisor, though!]I also loved that he refused to give up on J. August.

6. The Extremis + serum combo was fun. I found J. August's speech about the little guy a little embarassing, though. I like the point, I just think that speech was too anvilly.

7. Ming Na was suitably badass, and I know it's the pilot so I'm going to be patient as they flesh out her backstory, but she is by far the agent I'm most interested in. Really, right now I'm in this show for her and Coulson, and possibly maybe hacker girl. The other ones didn't impress me, though I know it's early days.

8. My headcanon for Lola is that Steve complained to Tony that Howard promised the world flying cars 70 years ago and he's disappointed there are no flying cars in the future, so of course Tony built the prototype, and then somehow SHIELD got ahold of it.
