Star Wars recs
Strangely enough, I came out of the movie not really shipping anyone in particular (though I've read a few shippy stories I like; it's just not my focus)--what I really wanted was good genfic, and there have been a few stories I've read recently that really blew me away. Behind a cut, since the story summaries may spoil the film for the 5 people in the world that still haven't seen it.
Owlet, Generational Mistakes. "With all the loss Leia Organa had known, she did not expect to feel to completely gutted by the sight of her son in chains." This is an extremely compelling look at Leia and Ben's relationship, exploring the causes of his fall, the mistakes made by all the Skywalkers and Solos, and the possibility of redemption. This is my new canon. A little bit of background Rey/Finn/Poe, but mostly gen.
Dimircharmer, Tomorrow (there'll be more of us). “FN-2187 was real, right?” She sounds very young again. “Please tell me he was real."
"I'm real,” said Finn, who was on his first patrol since his back healed. “And my name’s Finn now.”
Her eyes widened. “You have a name?"
Wonderful exploration of how Finn's story has inspired other stormtroopers to defect to the Rebellion.
LullabyeKnell, The Story of Finn
"The story they hear is that of FN-2187.
He's a defector – a traitor to the First Order. He's not the first, nor will he be the last, and the First Order expects to retrieve him and end him quickly.
But that's not what happens."
This is still a WIP, but it's the story that inspired Tomorrow (above), and it's a completely fabulous exploration of the power of storytelling in giving hope to the hopeless.
The only thing Stormtroopers own are stories.
