Maybe it's more pronounced now for this I'm-a-freak arc (I knew Lionel pointing out meteor "freak" was too obvious for SV's usual style) but I've been noticing this for seasons, it just because weirder post-S4!Chloe's-enlightenment, and that it was Clark specific really bugs.
I realize she may have these theories but I guess that gets into another issue I have (that she takes her conclusions and logic leaps as starting points and accept/run with them rather than work to prove them); when there are enough examples or personal encounters with benign mutants disproving this...there's no excuse to hold fast to that conclusion anymore. A mutant living a normal life and using his power to try to woo ladies won't make the news, she's in the news business and should know/realize that the stuff outrageous enough to get attention is not nearly enough proof of a trend or medical evidence. I'd have more respect for it if we see her bounce these theories off of actual scientists, people who know correlation is not necessarily causation, try to actually find out whether brain chemistry is altered such that they *do* actually go crazy/violent and we've not seen this at all.
About Ryan...I don't remember...I know sometimes they don't even bother to flag the fotw as an actual "freak" like they did in early S1 all the time (like Justin, I don't think they did the typical "he was here during the meteor shower/he got his power this way" exposition.
