Veronica Mars finale

Oh, Keith.

Keith, I've always loved you best, and it seemed very fitting given the noir dynamic of the whole show that you should fall on your sword in the last episode to save Veronica, but OUCH. I'm sure somehow you'll get off, in the future we'll never see, and end up once again eking out a small living as a PI.

I actually thought that even though they didn't script it a "series finale", it actually was a good series finale. It was very appropriate to bring back the Kanes (even if 2/3 of them only in creepy portraits) and Clarence Wiedman, to let Mac and Weevil help Veronica out, and to return to the great friendship vibe between Veronica and Wallace. Heck, Wallace even ended up stranded in his boxers once again, just like in the pilot--this time by the rich folks instead of by a gang--but in this case, instead of Veronica helping him, he was doing it to help Veronica. And this time, instead of an investigation of a rape and murder leading back to someone taping her friend having sex, it was someone taping Veronica having sex that led her to the Kanes, and to the circles of power and wealth that aren't held accountable to anyone. And just like in the first season, tangling with the Kanes leads Keith to lose his job, though ironically this time it's breaking the law rather than upholding the law. But he's doing it out of love for Veronica, and I love him for it.

And yet, even though it had serious consequences for Keith, I loved that "the bitch was back" in this episode, because Veronica is a mighty power for vengeance, and I've always loved that about her character. And wow, she has more ammunition for future vengeance now that any one person should have. They really should fear her now, and that kind of makes me happy.

I haven't been as disenchanted as the rest of fandom with the last two seasons. Nothing will ever live up to the perfection of season 1, but I've still enjoyed the run of the show, and I would have watched the FBI spinoff, had it happened. Still, this seems like a good ending point. I'm a little sad, but not heartbroken, because in my universe Keith gets off and goes back to being a private eye, which is what he should do, and Veronica has at least two more years working with him before she goes off to the FBI, so in my head they'll still be the best father-daughter team ever.

I really like the way you've drawn parallels between the first and last episodes. I really liked the finale too.

Great analysis! I get that this episode wasn't truly written as a series finale, but it went 360 with most of the important characters.

Plus, the appearance of bad!ass veronica was definitely nice.

I was really sad but excited about the finale too. I was all worried it would be a cliffhanger, but it turned out not to be too much of one.

I'm more than a little heartbroken, though, because I love Veronica so much. The modern Noir genre really interests me, but there's not much of it around ("Brick" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" come to mind) that's very good or interesting.

I also wasn't really disappointed with s2&3 like so many people seemed to be - it's hard to follow up such a good first season. I just wish we'd seen more of Mac and Wallace.

I think that this may be my favorite episode of the three year run. I was very sad in the uneven feel of S3, but they ended it on a perfect note. Keith right back where he started, Veronica back in that High school feel and with her simply walking away from the camera.

S1 and S2 dragged me back into TV (I still do not own a television, and do not have one in my house). Because of this show, I now watch The Daily Show, Heroes and BSG. And for that I will always be happy.

ANd yes, I too would have *LOVED* the FBI Spin-off.
