Well, I suppose the good news about the livejournal purge is that it's happening before I shelled out $150 for a permanent account. I didn't have any interests that would have drawn attention, but in solidarity I deleted them all and put "freedom of speech" as my sole interest.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, there's info here and here and purportedly here, though I can't get fandom wank to load, personally.

ETA 2 Since I realize my post was not very informative, the basic gist is: LJ is permanently suspending accounts like

pornish_pixies that have terms like incest listed as interests, as a result of pressure from some vigilante anti-childporn group. The links above have a lot more detail about this, but that's the short version.

I saved all my interests in a file, and hopefully will be able to put them back up soon. *Sigh* I HATE that that stupid rumor turned out to be true.

I was planning on buying a permanent LJ, too. Now I just don't know.

I know! In fact, I was fretting because I was going to be away part of June, and thinking I might miss the sale--and now I'm just not sure what to do. This may all blow over--it may turn out we just have to be more circumspect in listing our interests, to cover LJ's butt legally--or it may turn into a witchhunt. It's hard to say right now. Of course, everyone's talking about moving to GJ but they could end up cracking down, too.

It's most distressing.

I'm thinking that I blame LJ for the mass hysteria, I mean, it's all well and good saying 'oh, we suspend any community reported to us with interests that promote illegality' and okay, so I assume they mean in an American jurisdiction where I was wholly unaware of such sanctions against fiction. idk. I mean, I can see where people wanna blame those Warriors For Innocence people but given that they've just had a whole bunch of actual paedophile communities shut down which I'm confident LJ could also have managed without much trouble then I can't really find it in myself to condemn them.

The fact that there were actual pedophile comms on LJ is pretty disgusting, I agree.

I'm not sure the blackouts were at all linked to this, but the thing about the user interests is correct.

And look what an appropriate icon LJ hook has selected for me! Though every time I edit this entry with more links, it wants to change my icon, which is annoying.

The blackouts were due to some massive Denial Of Service attack, so I read, so I guess it could be a coincidence or it could be that was their phase 1? Though they really seem like hyper-sensitive parents that people who even know what ping is, so.

Ah! Probably coincidence. Good! Still, I've been meaning to post my back-up contact details to friends anyway, so I did so just in case.

Oh, how sad! I changed a few of my tags that might be slightly open to misinterpretation, but decided not to lock anything that's not already locked, dammit.

Yeah, me lock nothin'. I don't think I'm at risk. And that icon's going back up asap when this blows over. More than anything, I just want to avoid people moseying past and telling me not to use it. ;-p

I'm trying to decide if I'm in danger of being deleted because I have "domestic violence" "sexual assault" "sexual abuse" and "sexual harassment" listed in my interests. It's certainly not because I support any of these things, it's because I work at a DV shelter for God sakes. *sighs*

Honestly? To be safe I think I'd clear your interests for now. You can always put them back later, when this all blows over (she said, hopefully).

Thank for summarizing everything with those links. I don't *think* I have anything to worry about, but I guess you never know. I don't really want to hassle with starting up a GJ and figuring out how to transfer everything over. I just learned how to put up a mood theme on LJ TODAY. *sigh*
