Burn Notice

Everybody who isn't watching Burn Notice (Thursdays on USA at 10) really, really should be. It premiered when I was travelling, but fortunately the friend I was staying with is as addicted to USA shows as I am and had it TIVOd, and I swear I have *never* enjoyed a pilot as much as this one--I was literally squealing with glee, by the end. And I just watched a taped rerun of last week's ep and the new one back to back, and I just think this show gets better and better. I initially was interested because Bruce Campbell and Sharon Gless were both in it, but now I'm completely in love with Jeffrey Donovan and Gabrielle Anwar.

If you haven't heard of it, it's about this former spy who's basically been blacklisted and is forced to do private-eye kinds of things to make a living while he tries to figure out why he's been blacklisted. It's one part comedy, one part detective drama, and one part MacGyver. I think what I love most about it, though, besides seeing this incredible tough-guy get manipulated by his mom and his ex-girl friend, and watching him effortlessly take down various criminal elements in Miami using fun spy gadgets he concocts out of cell phones and duct tape, is how completely it feeds my reluctant hero kink. I'm a total sucker for cynics who get forced by circumstances to do the right thing. (I blame this on George Lucas; I imprinted on Han Solo at the age of 8 and have never really gotten over that particular type).

Oh that sounds interesting. I can't get into anything new right now though since I'll be without trusty internet access for a couple of weeks. I'm glad you've found something new and fun though. *g*

Well, you'll be enjoying the film festival at least part of the time, so I hope that compensates for diminished internet access.

That does sound good. I will try to find a torrent of it later on.

I honestly didn't expect to like it--I was only giving it a chance because I've loved Bruce Campbell since the days of Xena (and he, unfortunately, is looking sadly puffy these days, though it suits the character he's playing)--but I really loved it. I hope you will too.

We love it for the MacGuyvery stuff, too. It's about time things got back to simple over gizmos.

(And I'm so with you on the Han Solo. He was my first movie boyfriend.)

How do I not have a single SW icon? But yeah, Han Solo is probably a whole generation's first movie boyfriend. *Sigh*

I have to say, I really love the sardonic voiceovers as they're doing the MacGyvery stuff, too. This show just fills me full of joy.

I'm finding it quite enjoyable myself. I really wasn't expecting to like it, but I did. I like the main character and Fiona, and Bill Campbell's always a treat, and I love the MacGuyvering and how he (nearly) effortlessly takes down the bad guys.

I love beyond reason the fact that he is wickedly competent and always has no real problems with the bad guys--it's Fiona and his mom that trip him up. And I also really love that Fiona's the bloodthirsty one and he's the voice of reason. I swear, I just wish she had had *more* opportunity to throw Molotov cocktails last night!

Thank you for sharing my ridulously huge joy I get from watching this show!

It really is wonderful, isn't it?

*gets*

I LOVED JD in touching evil and was so sad to see that one go. I'll definitely give this one a look.

Several people have mentioned Touching Evil to me when I told them about this show, but I've never seen it myself.

Thanks, though I still am on dialup (sob) so I can't really do torrents.

I really need to get cable. That show sounds awesome.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I'm sure it will turn up on DVD someday, though, or maybe someone will send you copies of it. I'd offer, but unfortunately I already taped over the episodes, because I was out of blank VCR tapes. :-(
