recs and the state of me

I've been feeling very hermitish for the past couple weeks. I see from my calendar I have actually posted a few times, and I've been trying to make myself reply to comments and comment on people's entries, but I am finding it more challenging than normal. All I seem to want to do these days is lose myself in long Harry Potter novels. And there are so many in that fandom, it's easy. Waking up on time for work tomorrow is going to be very painful, I fear, because the past two nights in a row I've inadvertantly stayed up until 6 a.m. lost in a long story.

Meanwhile, I've been compiling a list of recs. Is anyone interested in recs for the stories that have been swallowing me whole lately? Most of them are HP classics I'm sure most people in the fandom have read already--I just read irregularly in HP so I hadn't gotten around to them yet. However, I also have a fairly lengthy list of post-Deathly Hallows stories I've enjoyed, which I will place behind a cut since most of the summaries contain spoilers for DH.

[livejournal.com profile] atdelphi, Familiar Places. To say too much about this would be to spoil it, but Snape lovers will appreciate this brief look at Albus Severus Potter's early days at Hogwarts.

[livejournal.com profile] bagheera_san's Five Moments of Doubt. Set during DH. Snape is now headmaster of Hogwarts. How do people respond to him?

[livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, The rules of being a godson . Teddy, growing up.

[livejournal.com profile] fernwithy, Pointless. Adolescent Teddy, trying to come to terms with his parents' deaths.

[livejournal.com profile] florahart, Last Call . After the battle, Harry has a final conversation with Snape. Painful in the right way.

[livejournal.com profile] furiosity, The Little Ones. What happens to the muggle-born children as they try to board the train for Hogwarts under the new regime? Chilling, with a little bit of hope to leaven it.

[livejournal.com profile] googlebrat, End of the Line . After the battle, Snape finds himself at a railway station. This one made me cry.

[livejournal.com profile] inell, Consequences . Hermione copes with the consequences of the decision she made for her parents. This one really hurts, but it's very well done.

[livejournal.com profile] jackiejlh, , All Those empty spaces . Petunia, during the war. One of the best Petunia stories I've ever read.

[livejournal.com profile] koalabear2046, Inter-house relations (Scorpius/Rose). Despite the objections of some of their family members, a Weasley can be friends with a Malfoy.

[livejournal.com profile] lilith_morgana, Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. A brilliant look at Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy toward the end of DH, caught in a trap and trying to escape it.

[livejournal.com profile] myashke, Dawning. Snarry. A post-DH fixit fic.

[livejournal.com profile] penknife, Summer Holidays. Hermione in the aftermath. A lot of lovely little character moments.

[livejournal.com profile] permasmile's Of Being. Snape and Lily, in the afterlife. Snape is SO Snape in this, it made me cry.

[livejournal.com profile] scoradh, Road Less Travelled Series . So far there are three stories in this, focusing on Albus Severus Potter and the friends he makes at Hogwarts, including Rambo Dursley and Scorpius Malfoy. I really adore this AU, and not just because Dudley named his (magical! yay!) son Rambo, either.

[livejournal.com profile] trickofthedark, Platform 9.9999999. A gorgeous combination of art and story. Dumbledore in the afterlife. For me, this really redeems a scene in DH I had issues with.

[livejournal.com profile] xparrot, Spook. Fred and George in the midst of battle.

Not fanfic, but a hilarious retelling of the book:http://violet-quill.livejournal.com/329450.html?style=mine#cutid1

*pounces* OMG! THANK YOU for posting these! I'm just now starting to read HP fanfic, so this is a treasure trove. :D *is excited*

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! I'll probably be posting more recs soon.

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thanks for these. I've only read one HP fic before, but I'd like to try some more eventually. I need to finish DH first, I'm about halfway done.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, definitely don't read any of these until you finish DH, because they are all set either during or after the book.

[identity profile] blisstasteful.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering that HP was the first fic I ever read, hell, the first slash I ever read, I havn't really read very widely in that fandom, and I for one would appreciate a rec list of classics!

In the meantime these will keep me more than busy! Excellent!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Great! And I'll go ahead and compile that other list, though it's just stories I happened to have been reading lately. I might include some rec sites I use to look for HP fic, though, because there's so much of it it is kind of daunting.

[identity profile] blisstasteful.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankyou honey! I'll look forward to it!

As I have the summer off and the house to myself (for now) I'm pretty much amusing myself by staying up way too late reading fic after fic. This would be a great boon to me!

OMG I LOVE YOUR ICON! where did you get it?

[identity profile] blisstasteful.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It was made by a flister of mine [Unknown site tag].

The post includes a number of kick ass DH quotes including the using the spell 'erecto' to pitch a tent! I doubt it's locked. Go check it out!

Is anyone interested in recs for the stories that have been swallowing me whole lately?

*raises hand*

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Since several people are interested, I'll definitely post them, then!

[identity profile] c-mantix.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! Thank you so much for compiling this list!!

You rock:) *hugs*

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like them.

[identity profile] bagheera-san.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Triple yay, actually, because 1) post-DH recs! 2) I got recced! and 3) HP classics! I'm hopelessly lost when it comes to the apparently endless seas of HP fic. Rec away! *goes to read the Rambo Dursley fic*

[identity profile] blisstasteful.livejournal.com 2007-07-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Surprisingly enough that was the one that tugged at me the most too! How awesome and how Dudders! LOL!

Also surprised that I havn't come across your DH fic before now. I've read enough of your stuff that I'd assume I had you friended. I generally keep better track of these things

[identity profile] bagheera-san.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well! *friends* Hi :)

The Rambo Dursley fic series turns out to be awesome in general.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I loved your story, so it was a pleasure to recommend it. And I'm glad you like the Rambo Dursley story--I am stalking [livejournal.com profile] scoradh's page now just in case she posts more of it.

Thank you - for the rec to mine own *blush* - and the other recs - the illustrated one with Dumbledore was a lovely little piece, and now I gotta check out that Road Less Travelled because, Rambo? That is beautiful!

You're very welcome!
