7 reasons I am weird

I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] kdsch123 for this, so reasons I am weird

1. I really hate having cold feet, and I have a tendency to Raynaud's phenomenon, so in the winter I tend to sleep in both socks and slippers.

2. My dietary restrictions have started to get so complicated that I'm starting to despair of ever eating at anyone else's house ever again: lactose-intolerant soy-sensitive vegetarian, and I tend to react badly to nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant--though I still do eat those if I don't have other options).

3. I frequently spend entire weekends without ever talking to another person. Sometimes these are my ideal weekends.

4. I don't like to put things in drawers. I like things to be visible.

5. I have the highest tolerance for clutter of anyone I've ever met in my entire life.

6. I only shave my legs from the knee down.

7. I really hate memes where you have to tag or otherwise obligate other people, so I am tagging no one.

one year, when i had lost too much weight too fast, i seemed to have raynaud's -- my fingers, in very cold weather, would go white and then, on warming up again, kind of purple. it HURT. as i gained the weight back, the phenomenon went away, but i remember that pain.

i kinda like clutter. *g* as for tagging, i won't do it either. there's too much risk of making people we don't tag feel left out or unloved.

Interesting--I didn't know Raynaud's was situational. And good point about people who aren't tagged feeling left out!

[identity profile] daisydumont.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
well, my doctor at the time told me it was raynaud's, but then it went away, so i'm sort of guessing that it may be situational. similarly, i'm occasionally hypoglemic, but it depends on circumstances. maybe i'm just medically anomalous. ;)

oh yes, hurt feelings can be a problem with LJ and friends lists. once someone i thought i was really close to didn't include me in her tagged list, and i felt absurdly left out. maybe i'm just all kind of anomalous, though. *g*

I have a tendency to Raynaud's phenomenon
Is that what it's called? We just call it "white fingers" in my family - my brother and I are especially prone to it :o/

2. Poor you! Both for not being able to eat those things, and for having trouble eating out.

6. …People shave their thighs?

People shave their thighs?

heh, that was my first thought too. I guess if you have really dark hairy thighs and you want to wear a short skirt?

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I have read it in fiction (people shaving their thighs) and therefore assumed it was true--it's not actually something I've ever asked people about.

And yeah, that's Raynaud's--it's often associated with autoimmune diseases.

2. Wow, that's a tough thing to live with. Everywhere you go things seem to center around food. But yay for rice and past!

5. I'm thrilled I am not the only clutter rat I know :-)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep thinking I'm going to have to break down and start eating meat again, because it does create a lot of social hassles, but I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years, so I'm not going to do it unless I absolutely have to.

Clutter rats unite!

5. I have the highest tolerance for clutter of anyone I've ever met in my entire life.

I am such a messy person but clutter bothers me so much and not even consciously but if everything isn't arranged neatly in my room I get so grouchy. Which is bad because my room is usually filled with toys and random jigsaw puzzle peices that have migrated their way into here.

OMG SNAP.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it actually possible to avoid messiness when you have a kid? I mean, I don't have that excuse, but you do. Actually, I live alone so I can't blame anyone but myself.

I am naturally messy but I actually hate clutter. This causes problems for me.

Yes, I can see how it would!

I'm from a family of seven, and our house was always a total disaster area when I was growing up--we could never have anyone over, it was way too embarrassing. As a result, two of us are total slobs, and my other three sibs (and my mom, now that we no longer live at home) are total neat freaks. With me, I honestly rarely notice messes unless they're pointed out to me. On the Meyers-Briggs, on the N-S scale (intuitive v. sensory, which I always interpret as "head lost in the clouds" v. "paying attention to the outside world", I am always highest on the N scale (head lost in the clouds).

I tend to have a lot of clutter, but as long as it's my clutter, I'm usually okay with it because it's a somewhat organized clutter. I can't stand what a slop my daughter is though, and I've taken to refusing to clean it up for her, so I close her door and let her be a slob on her own. I am racked with guilt about this on a daily basis. But it's a battle I've chosen not to fight.

I've never shaved above my knees, but I don't have very much hair there anyway. My daughter is horrified though, because among her female peers, shaving the entire leg is the norm.

I never thought about making people feel left out with meme tagging. If I do one, I purposely try and tag people that I don't hear from very often, to pull them out of the woodwork so to speak.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you should feel guilty about your daughter's slovenliness; that's not really something you're responsible for.

And I *knew* there had to be people who shaved their whole legs, because I've seen it so often in fic it had to be reflecting something.

Ohh, it does sound hard to feed you! *boggles*

I'm jealous of your silent weekends though. And I'm kind of shocked to learn that ANYone shaves above the knee!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently the shaving thing is generational? I may have to do a poll.

Yeah. My diet is...complicated. I really just try to avoid being a guest at non-potlucky dinners, because it's just too much of a pain for the hosts.

Re: #6 -- Same here and it's true of almost all of my female friends, too. In fact, I've only ever heard of swimmers and porn stars going above the knee.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Based on [livejournal.com profile] serenography's comment above, I'm wondering if it's generational. I may have to do a poll.
