Heroes

There are about 6 enormous work projects on my desk that I must complete today, none of which I have any desire to work on, so it seems like time to write a Heroes review. *Headdesk*

I thought I'd start with the bad and work toward the good.

Things that I never, ever, ever need to see on my TV screen again:

1. Voluntary toe amputation. Claire, WTF??? Seriously! It's bad enough to see you boil your hand--did your pain receptors vanish with the onset of your ability, or do you just like pain enough that people are going to start writing you in torture sex scenes that make Methos/Kronos slash look tame?

2. Nate's beard. It's a crime against humanity. Enough said.

Things I found very annoying:

1. The Maya & Alejandro plotline. I like the characters a lot--I like the sibling bond and their protectiveness toward each other (the new Nathan/Peter?), but this whole "dangerous power I can't control" thing is so Niki played. I'm finding it very boring. I mean, the only reason I pay attention to their scenes at all is because they're subtitled, so I kind of have to watch to understand what is going on. But if they don't get them out of danger and start doing something interesting with them soon, I'm just going to keep reading my email during their scenes in the future.

2. Matt and Mohinder are apparently living together but not communicating? I want them to TALK TO EACH OTHER about the significant developments going on.

3. Stupid Irish bad guys. Because yeah, when I find a naked guy chained up in a cargo container, the FIRST thing I think is "he totally stole my ipods." Also? Stupid Peter. You have powers, you don't have to be manipulated by the promise of learning your identity. You could just, I don't know, TAKE THE BOX from him.

4. Claire's inability to find a middle ground. I get that she's a teenager and feels stifled, but asking the specific questions she asked in her science class seemed teh dumb to me. Also having a conversation about her superpowers in a public place.

Things I enjoyed despite the cliched nature of the plotline:

1. Oh, Hiro. I love how you keep repeating Kensei's name, just so they get it right in the storybooks. I was a little disappointed that the swordsmith's daughter didn't get to be the hero, though. And you need to speed up your reaction time. I realize that they had to have Kensei getting shot to show his healing power (distant ancestor of Claire???), but if he hadn't had it, he would be dead, which isn't good. [Or maybe his real power is immortality?] MUST. RESIST. URGE. to call for Claire/Kensei Highlanderesque torture sex, because that would be BAD. Not to mention scary. Um, but maybe they could have a swordfight and Claire could cut off his head and have to fake orgasm onscreen?]

2. There is no number two, but I felt dorky having a list with only one entry. Creating a fake number 2 is not at all dorky, of course.

Things that rocked my socks:

1. Mr. Muggles watching himself on TV and then getting annoyed when Claire turned it off. Hee! Also, Mr. Muggles knows where flying stalker-boy is--he's clearly the smartest member of that family.

2. Noah Bennett being upset that he can't make breakfast for Claire. AWWW. Plus, I loved his explanation about why Claire does not, really, want to find out the limit of her abilities.

3. Despite her bad timing, I did really love that Claire wants to be able to use her abilities to help other people. Claire FTW!!

4. Mohinder showing that big brain is good for something. YAY! Oh, and can I just say, my reaction to him speaking French was pretty much on par with Gomez Addams when Morticia spoke French. I mean, I knew he was multilingual already, but DAMN.

Oh, I'm sorry, was there plot there? I was temporarily overcome by the hotness, and remembering that I originally started watching this show because Mohinder was so. damn. hot. But I actually did love the fact that he successfully fooled the Company man, and got the Haitian (did we actually get his name, finally?) to work for him and Mr. Bennett. Yay for competent Mohinder!
