recent TV

Not really reviews, more like visceral reactions, now that I'm a little caught-up on my backlog of shows.

Hmm. I don't think I'm going to continue taping this show. It's not that I dislike it, it's just that I don't like it enough to give it any of my limited TV time, I think. Clearly the fact that I can't even remember any of the main characters names at this point is a sign that I'm not invested. I have to say, though, I really hated that the Devil prevented the female love-interest from going back to school just to give the main character a better shot at her. That is made of fail.

I continue to love the look of this show--the supersaturated colors and the sheer loveliness of the two main leads--and I liked that Kristen Chenowith got a musical number. That said, the voiceovers are getting on my nerves, and I am *so* uninterested in the detective plots that I didn't actually pay attention to the crime-solving bits at all; I just looked up whenever Ned and Chuck were having a conversation. I did find the kiss and the modifications Ned made to his car charming, and I do like the idiosyncratic whimsy (like Chuck calling a refrigerator a cheesebox until she was 18), but I don't know how I'm going to feel about this show over the long run. I already really really hate the way Olive's fixation on Ned is played for laughs.

Dammit. I think I am actually hooked on this show. I'm starting to actually *like* Jaimie Sommers, and of course I already loved Sarah Corvis. This week's episode managed to push so many of my fannish buttons it wasn't even funny. Sarah's desparation to get Jaime to help her, and her willingness to do whatever it takes; Jamie's older-sister persona, which I love with her own sister AND with the girl she had to bodyguard; Jamie's deviousness in bringing her bratty charge to Ruth; the reveal about Sarah's sister, and Sarah's oh-so-threatening bonding with Becca; Jamie's authentic desire to help Sarah, tempered with her need to protect Becca above all else; Sarah and Jamie's bonding over the violation of their bodies; and, oh yeah, the UNBELIEVABLE femslashy subtext?

Yeah, I'm hooked.

I got all bouncy last night about the return of Blood Ties, and I was *not* disappointed. Last season I thought some of the cases they investigated were a little uneven, but this one was solid and pretty interesting--the speculation over whether or not ghost cop was actually dirty allowed Mike and Vicki to have parallel investigations of the case that really complemented each other. And I *loved* that Vicki seems to formally be making Henry her partner, and how excited he was about that.

Coreen was cute as always--I'm really bummed that she won't be returning after this season, but I wonder if that's why they decided to make Henry more of a full partner to Vicki, rather than just a friend she keeps bugging? I'm glad we got to see Henry investigating on his own, too.

I am still bemused, though, that the character I love most on this show is Michael Celucci, considering I could barely stand him in the books. He's such a good cop, though. And I loved that he kept his word to his supervisor (who I also really like, though I suspect she's going to turn out to be evil) and didn't directly tell Vicki about the Internal Affairs investigation.

I really liked the three of them, at the end, sharing the knowledge that the ghost had been more than just a dirty cop. (I really, really, really want Henry/Mike/Vicki threesome fic. Is anyone writing that?)

Coreen. And I'm bummed too. She's better in Blood Ties as Coreen than she is in Flash as Dale.

When is Blood Ties on? I MISSED it and now I am SAD. :(

Oops! I'm having real problems with character names this week, for some reason.

Blood Ties is now scheduled for 11 p.m. on Friday nights, which is a sucky time--how do they expect any decent ratings?--but it's Lifetime, so I imagine they will rebroadcast it.

I'm not seeing a repeat scheduled, but I checked the website and they have a Heroes sitch going on and have put the episode up there to watch. Yay!

Hee! We've swung to opposite shows--Pushing Daisies totally won me over in the second episode (though I hate Olive) whereas Bionic Woman has become excruciating for me. I have rarely seen a show so abysmally conceived. The martial arts being completely implausible (she's only as strong as a man trained in martial arts? really?! only one of her arms is bionic... some of the time?!) was the final straw for me. I am now at the stage of fastforwarding for the Katee scenes ONLY and she's the only sympathetic character on the show to me and she's a psycopath. *cries with pain*

There's nothing like expert knowledge to make you cringe at certain elements of shows, is there?

Still, I completely blame you for my Bionic Woman fixation because I never would have watched the second ep if you hadn't said you were going to keep watching. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get disenchanted soon enough! Katee's scenes really are good, though. Definitely the best part of the show for me.

Oops! I mean don't get me wrong, I'm still downloading (even though Aus is only a couple of weeks behind!) and I can't see myself turning away from Katee. It just feels very masochistic because the show really irrits me. ;)

Sarah and Jamie's bonding over the violation of their bodies; and, oh yeah, the UNBELIEVABLE femslashy subtext?

Yes, me too! If there's ever been a femslashy show, this is it. I just. Er, yeah.

It's like a gift to femslashers! Yay!

I feel the same way about Reaper and Pushing Daisies. I actually find Reaper more enjoyable to watch the PD (the quirkiness is *really* starting to grate on me tbh), but like you, I can't remember any of the characters' names, and I absolutely hate how the female characters are written and treated in it. It is a show clearly written by fanboys.

Obviously I need to watch Bionic Woman, although I'm happy to wait for it to come out in the UK.

Most people hate BW, but although I hated the pilot obviously I think there is redeeming value, but Bop pretty much hates it aside from Katee's scenes, so I don't know if you'd like it or not.

I guess I might like Reaper a little better than PD, just judging by the fact that I paid attention to about 70% of it this week (v. 50% for Pushing Daisies), but they really have to start doing character development soon--for the girls and the boys both.

ITA on all your points about all the shows except Blood Ties. 'Cause I MISSED IT! *cries*

I'll set the DVR to catch it from here on out. I'm glad it's back!

Oh no! I see Lifetime has all of last season on their site; I hope that means you can eventually get the latest episode their too.

I didn't realize how much I missed it until I saw it again.

You know I wanted to like "Bionic Women." I really tried to, but I just can't! I find the plots boring, and I less then enamored with the title character which is just wrong. In fact, I really only like KS and WYL, and like you've said she's out of her gourd. Their relationship at it's
best defines dysfunction. There's just not enough there for me to keep watching.

Blood Ties, is another story. I'm filled with squee that it's finally back. And yes a Mike/Vicki/Henry threesome would be made of win. If you find any fic please rec it and I'll do the same.

I haven't seen Bionic Woman from this week yet. I think I might be hooked, but I still could be persuaded not to watch.

I'll definitely send any Blood Ties threesome fic your way if I find any. I have great hopes for Yuletide, if nothing else.
