Huh?

Ok, I reconfirmed at several places that the Smallville premiere is next week, so why the heck did they show the rerun of "Quest" rather than "Arctic" tonight? Dammit, I was looking forward to rewatching that pivotal Clark-Lex scene. And while I kind of liked Quest the first time, I found it pretty damn tedious this time around.

I was expecting to see Arctic myself. It didn't make sense for them not to show it. I watched for the Lex (enjoyed his minion seeming to be torn between mooning lovestruck and peeing his pants in fear), the shirtless Clark, and thought my, how much I hated that whole arc, and after I stayed tune to cry my eyes out some more at my other show. Again.

(I am logged into this account tracking down new SV fans, but never fear, it is I, [livejournal.com profile] norwich36.

I have to say that while I generally appreciate naked Lex chest, naked bloddy Lex chest=not quite so much.

I was actually going to re-review Arctic as a way of distracting myself from the most awful bits of SPN (which is airing RIGHT NOW and killing me) and geez, now I have nothing to distract me from Dean getting shredded. Though at least this time through I have a better idea of when Lilith took over Ruby, which I was wondering about.

Ack, this isn't a paid account so I can't edit my horrible typos. That's naked bloody Lex chest, of course.

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Quest really was some Grade A snuff film. Lol.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Good point--considering both Lex and Clark got tortured. It's too bad we couldn't get the nudity without the blood.

omg, that sucks! (You know I hated Quest the first time around... the idea of rewatching it? *shudders*)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it doesn't hold up to rewatching very well, except I suppose if naked Clark and Lex chests (while they're being tortured) is enough to make you watch.

[identity profile] clari-clyde.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don’t usually watch re-runs however, I did want to see “Arctic” to transition back into appointment TV. I feel so discombobulated now.

At least I got my lead-in to next week’s SPN premiere. :-D I got that to be happy about!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, me too. Plus, how are we supposed to remember what's going on, assuming that the premiere (I am fairly unspoiled) takes into account the last season finale? I mean, sure, they can show previouslies, but it's not quite the same.

OMG, I found it harder to watch the SPN finale this week than the first time around, when I still had a crazy hope that they would break the deal somehow. Poor Dean!

[identity profile] clari-clyde.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There’s this part where Sam goes “you have really unleashed my wrath” and Lillith realizes the consequences. After that, I just turned off the TV. And that’s all I needed to see again.

[identity profile] skuf.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they plan to show it immediately before? Otherwise it makes no sense.

Your post made me finally get around to watching the Clark/Lex scene - it wasn't half-bad!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'm going to have to dig up my tapes and rewatch that scene, because I don't remember it very well, four months later.
ext_3952: (Clex - I love you)

Someone speculated on one of the boards (DI?) yesterday that maybe they thought it's a poor taste to show Arctic on 9/11 because of the whole plane going down thing?

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I mean, it's seven years later, I think we can handle the trauma. I think someone just goofed, honestly.

[identity profile] jeannev.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ain't the CW so speshul?

Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but I actually believe Dawn is hoping SV and SPN tank this year so she can remove them from the schedule without arguement. So, no promotion, no publicity, not even setting up the season premiere properly.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I find that pretty unlikely, considering that the CW is tottering on the edge of existence. She's not going to sabotage some of the few shows she has that get decent ratings, or there's not likely to BE a CW next year. I assume the "no promotion" thing, as usual, is related to the extremely limited budget they have for promotion, so they're saving it for their new shows.

I suspect it was stupidity rather than deliberate malice.

[identity profile] latxcvi.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't understand it either. I really thought my cable box was wrong, and then I actually turned the episode on and just ... shook my head at the CW. It's like, "Really? Really? No one in programming remembered that the 7th season finale for SV ended on a cliffhanger? Really?" As programming decisions go, it was kind of bone-headed.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I have to confess that it took me 3/4 of the episode to realize "hey, this isn't Arctic, this is Quest" and that realization mostly came because I realized there was no way they had time for Lex and Clark to get up to the Arctic, much less have a pivotal confrontation scene, and have Lana's goodbye to Clark, etc. (Apparently season 7 just isn't sticking in my brain as much as earlier seasons).

Still, you would think the network could remember which show was actually the finale!!!

[identity profile] isilweth.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe the network doesn't really want to survive? They're trying to go under...

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Though I doubt they're deliberately trying to go out of business.

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they don't want us remember that Lex activated the Kryptonian device in an heroic attempt to save the world from the danger Clark poses (and, you know, he really DOES), and then willingly sacrificed himself to stay with Clark as the Fortress came down. That way, they can have all the other characters endlessly villify Lex in the eighth season and hope that we actually buy it.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, but presumably the next episode is going to start with Lex missing (and probably Clark as well)--how on earth will they explain that without showing Arctic?

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No doubt the first batch of characters we see will be offering heavy-handed dialogue to assure us that they will find and rescue Clark, no matter what the EVIL LEX LUTHOR has done to him. *snorts*

[identity profile] greenlady2.livejournal.com 2008-09-14 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and they'll start out with some kind of voiceover saying 'previously on Smallville'... then we'll... sorry, they'll... see Lionel saying Lex was born evil. Lex pushing Lionel out the window. Chloe and Clark mourning Lionel's death, because he died for us all. Various and assorted characters taking potshots at Lex -- both figuratively and literally. And so on and so forth. Then, season 8 will begin, and everyone will be speculating about what EVIL LEX LUTHOR might be doing to poor, innocent, sweet Clark Kent who never did anything to hurt Lex in his life. Bah! Humbug.

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Er...the first batch of characters YOU see. I won't be watching now that Lex is gone, but force of habit is tough to break. *g*

[identity profile] seacrystal.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
I actually liked Quest a lot, but the whole torture stuff is simply too much for me.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was a little graphic. I do remember liking the quest for answers a little better the first time around, because I was intrigued with the Veritas retcon. I'm not sure why I found it so boring this time around.
