My icon pretty much gives my reaction to last night's episode. So...Cameron was deliberately modelled after Allison as an infiltrator, but somehow she managed to internalize enough of Allison's life story that when the glitch occurred, she thought she was Allison? Am I parsing that correctly? (This is what happens when I come home from work bleary-eyed at 10:30 at night and try to watch the episode while finishing up a report that was due today).

Summer Glau, as usual, was fantastic in the episode; I love how easy it was to distinguish when she was Allison and when she was Cameron. And God, I felt so bad for poor Allison, marooned in a time before her time (so awful that her mother doesn't even know she exists yet!), even though of course Allison wasn't really Allison. And the phone call where we see Allison's mom is visibly pregnant seemed like a clear parallel, somehow, to Kacy. And it's making me wonder who Kacy is going to be giving birth to, because I can't imagine they're spending that much time on a guest star without a good reason (even going so far as to have Sarah almost promise to stay and help her out, which seemed kind of out-of-character to me. I actually thought that as soon as Sarah found out the dad was a cop they were going to be on the run again).

Meanwhile, for some reason I really love the fact that Agent Ellison is falling under the spell of Catherine Weaver, even though it's definitely going to end badly for him (and probably for Sarah and John as well). But it promises to be such an interesting downfall! And Weaver is fascinating me--again we have the theme of Terminators taking over people's identities reiterated, but here reversing the Cameron/Allison plot, since here the Terminator became the mother rather than the daughter. I find that simultaneously extremely creepy and extremely cool. I wonder if Catherine is capable of generating any kind of authentic feelings for Savannah, or if it is all simply an elaborate act she's been maintaining for the past two years? Clearly Agent Ellison is being misled in thinking she covered up the human error in the helicopter crash to protect her daughter--and we got to hear her spout the "machines are better" ideology to him earlier--but I do wonder if the fact that she's raised this little girl already for 2 years makes any kind of difference to her, or will she be just another human pawn to be slaughtered when the machines take over.

I'm also intrigued by some of the parallels being drawn between John and Agent Ellison: both of them falling into the trap of trusting dangerous Terminators because of a crisis they experienced. It's kind of hard for me to believe that John is once again letting Cameron malfunction without taking action, though I guess then he'd have to tell his mom he's straying away from her supervision and consequently allowing her to get arrested and go off with deceitful homeless girls. But I guess he's still nursing the delusion that Cameron is his friend (just as Cameron was deluded into thinking that she was a real girl, and Sarah allowed herself the delusion of imagining John's birth with his father present. A lot of wishful thinking going on in this episode!)

My final thought about this episode has to do with how completely weird it's going to be for future John to encounter the real Allison, after having known Cameron and *knowing* that the terminator that saved his life, and that he himself sent back into the past to protect him and his mom, is going to kill her. Assuming that the timeline isn't so fucked up at this point that it actually happens, anyway. I wonder if Cameron almost killing that homeless girl wasn't kind of foreshadowing that?

I thought Weaver's daughter, because of the way she never actually responded to Ellison, was going to turn out to be a pierce of the Terminator. That the daughter was actually dead and replaced.

It kind of freaked me out to see that Cameron was based on a real person. Cameron has changed, a lot, and I wonder how much of this was a learning curve and how much is Terminator. She started, without any accidents, saving bits and pieces of Terminators and the alloy. Then she had the head trauma, and reverted. Then, for no apparent reason, she converts to the human who she tried to become.

Now, if John sent Cameron back, then wouldn't future!John already know Allison's fate the moment he met her? And if he tried to change her fate, he wouldn't have the protection of Cameron in the past, right? And...nevermind my brain hurts now.

I thought it was very telling that Ellison's ex knew he was having a crisis of faith, that she could tell he wasn't wearing his cross. I like that he has an ex.

As for who Kacy's son is, it can't be anyone we've met yet, I'm assuming. Cameron replaced Allison, who looks 16. No one we have met looks younger than Allison/Cameron. How many years is it, during this timeline, before the takeover? I can't imagine its a Reece brother either, again, they are older than Allison. There really wasn't anyone important in their lives, that we haven't already seen.

Ooh, we've never seen a little kid terminator. That would be creepy coolness.

I agree with you on Ellison's ex--I hadn't remembered she was his ex until she made that comment, which was a very intimate sort of knowledge.

I don't know about Kacy's son not being anyone; before this episode we never guessed Cameron was modelled on someone else. I don't know who it could be, but I think there's a reason she's pregnant.

I thought this episode kind of sucked. It seemed like an excuse to let Summer Glau play something other than kind of crazy and robotic rather than something that actually moves the plot along. (Although: I really want Cameron to learn emotions, kind of like Data getting his emotion chip.)

I keep expecting Kacy to die. I can't believe she's lived next door to them for this long and survived!

Also, how cool would it be if Savannah is a terminator who grows like a real kid?

Oh, I kind of understand your reaction, because the plot didn't really *go* anywhere; it was definitely a character-centered episode.

The fact that Kacy hasn't died yet is what's making me think her pregnancy is significant.

I was thinking "something with a metal skeleton can't grow," re: Savannah, but then her mom's the shapeshifty kind of Terminator, so maybe she actually can!

But I didn't get a lot of character movement, either, except maybe from Ellison. (And I loved his ex, too.) Maybe they'll do something with Cameron's growing humanity (which, really, they've been hinting at at least since the ballet episode). Maybe it's that there wasn't any character movement with Sarah and John that I didn't like, especially after such a strong Sarah and John episode from last week. And now that I think about it, was Derek even in this episode? (Also a complaint: Did they have the annoying voice-over character explanation opening last season? Because that's really annoying.)

Or maybe they're just stretching it out so it'll be that much worse when she does die.

SkyNet is always growing and developing new things! Of course, then I have to wonder what you feed a terminator child.

I did see an interesting theory that Sarah was infiltrating Kacey's life paralleling Cameron's origin as an infiltrator--trying to get her to trust Sarah so she wouldn't be bringing her ex the nosy cop around.

No, Derek wasn't in this episode at all. And yes, they had the voiceover last season, but it was Sarah talking in the first person, and much less annoying, I thought.

Apparently the rating this season kind of suck? I was just reading that it might be cancelled. :-(

Hmmm. I don't know about that. Sarah's already starting to be friends with her before she finds out the baby's dad is a cop.

Ah, right. That was way less annoying.

Awww. Maybe that'll be a kick in the pants to get them to make this season better!
