Smallville: Turbulence
Ok, I'm not sure which actually qualifies as the A or B plot, since the Chloe-Jimmy-Davis part of the episode was so interminable it seemed like it took up most of the episode, but I hated that plot and loved the Clark-Tess storyline. Just so you know what you're getting into.
Things I loved
1. Clark in the suit. GUH. Also, Clark really going for the RedBlueBlur thing to give people hope, and also Clark's adorable quickchange thing, especially in the phone booth. Hee!
2. Tess teasing Clark about his backpack, because HELL YES. Also it was cute and flirty. (Not that I'm cheating on my Clark/Lois love, but let's be real--you'd flirt too if you worked with him, and it was fun to watch).
3. Tess in red. Can we make it a law that she has to wear more red? HOTNESS.
4. Tess's whole scheme, which I guessed was a scheme, was lovely and brilliant and worthy of Lex. (Are we 100% sure she isn't a female Lex clone? Because I really got that vibe from her today--especially using that characteristic Lexian device of "I'll spill my most personal secrets to get you to open up to me" but also having a backup plan).
5. Clark defending the authenticity of Lex's friendship, at least in the early years. (And duh Lex was obsessed. That was true love there. Which I halfway expected Clark to *say* at one point. I guess my Clex isn't dead after all!)
6. Clark coming up with a semi-convincing lie about the parachute. (And also, earlier, the dirty underwear). You're getting almost good at this subterfuge stuff, Clark--good job!
7. Jimmy and Chloe breaking up. Oh, I'm sorry, is that supposed to make me sad? I was cheering, I swear.
Things I'm meh about
1. The Davis storyline doesn't bore me--I am interested in his struggle against evil--but connecting it to the love triangle of complete boringness makes me a lot less interested in it than I otherwise would be.
Things I hated
1. The love triangle of boringness. OH MY GOD SHOOT ME NOW. It's been a while since I hated a Smallville character, but I pretty much outright hate Jimmy, and find every plotline surrounding him to completely suck the life out of the show.
First of all, the "Davis gaslights Jimmy" plot would have been a lot more interesting if they had made it a little more ambiguous about whether Jimmy actually was just having nightmares or not--at least leave the audience a little suspense, please. Second, I would have to actually care about Chloe's relationship with Jimmy to care about this love triangle, and I really really don't.
2. Jimmy as action hero? RLY? When he's in so much pain he's about to become addicted to painkillers? RLY????
And the whole Jimmy-as-drug-addict plotline is so eye-rollingly laughable I may actually just start fast-forwarding through scenes in Smallville, which I have not done in 8 years of faithful viewing.
3. Chloe? You need a decent plotline stat. Preferably one with no romance whatsoever. (I know there are Davis/Chloe shippers out there, and I guess that's a better ship than Chloe/Jimmy, but the whole beauty and the beast subtext of it just isn't doing it for me.)

I am SO glad I'm not the only one. OMG, what a snoozefest. Sadly, the only times I've liked Jimmy are when he's a) either around Clark or Lois, and b) not all about Chloe. Which is less than 10% of his time on the show, so.
Chloe so needs a decent story. This current one is awful.
7. Jimmy and Chloe breaking up. Oh, I'm sorry, is that supposed to make me sad? I was cheering, I swear.
Honestly, I would've been cheering, if it hadn't been done in such a ham-handed way. Blech.
I did love the Clark and Tess stuff in this episode, and Tess was definitely being very Lex-like. And trusting that Clark will use his powers to get you out of an exploding airplane is kinda hard core, you know?

That's very true--though I suspect she had some sort of plan B.

And Clark's line about his underwear almost made me cry from the laughing!

Yeah, I wonder if the diaries really exist at all--but if they do I'd really like to see them!!!
I also actually liked that Clark defended Tess to Chloe
Yeah, me too--both because it is very Supermanly of him to give people the benefit of the doubt, and because it's so reminiscent of season 1 Clex.

I totally agree!
Plus, the fact that I felt Tess was channeling Lex big time in this time, so it felt almost Clex-like, was an added bonus.
Yes Yes Yes!!
She was so brilliant!
I find Jimmy centered episodes, like Sleeper, boring. But I don't think that is his fault, it's that they don't know how to write him properly. If they try and force him into an action hero plot it doesn't work. When they make him a love interest, it doesn't work.
But when they let him be typical mythos Jimmy, like in Identity, I find him charming and fun.

I seem to recall liking that myself, back in the day--but honestly I'm really hating where all his recent plots are taking him. I've felt the same way about Chloe's plots for a while, too, but I have 6 years of investment in loving her character before she (or bad writing) started to make me nuts. So I have a little more patience for whatever the hell they're doing with her, whereas I don't have that investment in Jimmy, so I am really starting to actively dislike him. Which is sad, because I did love him when they first introduced him.
The Clark/Tess stuff was just tons of fun, and as you say, extremely Clexy.

YES. Give him a non-angsty life, take away some relationship problems, and look how fun he gets. :D
Tess teasing Clark about his backpack, because HELL YES. Also it was cute and flirty. (Not that I'm cheating on my Clark/Lois love, but let's be real--you'd flirt too if you worked with him, and it was fun to watch).
OMG YES. Chemistry! ♥

YES! (Do you sense a pattern here? :P) She's so much like Lex, I LOVE IT. She's awesome.
Clark defending the authenticity of Lex's friendship, at least in the early years. (And duh Lex was obsessed. That was true love there. Which I halfway expected Clark to *say* at one point. I guess my Clex isn't dead after all!)
YES. Ditto with me. :D
Clark coming up with a semi-convincing lie about the parachute. (And also, earlier, the dirty underwear). You're getting almost good at this subterfuge stuff, Clark--good job!
YES! So, pretty much YES to all your positive points. ;)

Agreed.
Chloe? You need a decent plotline stat. Preferably one with no romance whatsoever.
Also agreed. She's veering dangerously close to Lana territory (remember Bizarro/Lana? Ugh.) and it's scaring me. She really needs to get out of the damsel in distress role stat.

Funny how that works, isn't it? :D
I guess we completely agree about all the Clark/Tess stuff. So Clexian! To me it doesn't hurt that her eyes and the shape of her face resemble Lex's--even though I know the clone theory doesn't make sense with the established plotlines of the past season, I still like to imagine she's him, sometimes.

Or maybe she's a Lionel clone. She does have great hair. Or, that story about being a mermaid, maybe she's a Lori Lemaris clone? This show is picking up.
