Grey's Anatomy: the 100th episode

Sometimes I am reminded exactly why it is I keep watching this show.

I think this was really perfect for a 100th episode, since it really encapsulated the heart of the show: the roller-coaster of the emotional/romantic lives of surgeons as reflected through the patients they encountered. The best example of that, for me, was Alex Karev's plagiarized wedding vows; "My life begins today" actually works so much better as wedding vows than as a graduation speech, and the idea that Alex would actually man up and marry Izzie was made plausible by the fact that he spent most of his day with a girl who put off everything in her life for too long, and then lost everything just on the cusp of having it.

My god, I was just gutted by the medical storyline; those poor kids. And poor George and Callie and Lexie, having to cope with all their deaths.

But the Izzie-Alex wedding made up for a lot of emotional trauma. Raise your hand if you didn't see this coming from at least three episodes back? And no one will ever convince me Izzie and Meredith wear the same dress size, but I didn't even care because it really was the perfect ending to the whole wedding saga; it made Izzie and Alex happy, and furthermore it made Meredith and Derek happy. And when Meredith and Derek are all smiley, I forget that I hate them; in fact, I actually kind of like them.

And there were some lovely grace notes in the wedding itself, like Cristina being mad at being second choice for maid of honor, and Izzie saying "you tried to save my life. That makes you a woman of honor"--and the poleaxed look on Cristina's face--made me tear up a little. And I also teared up again when Izzie's weakness when walking down the aisle meant George got to give her away. And god, the look of pride and happiness on Bailey's face!

And speaking of Bailey, they really should let her dress up more often, because she looked totally awesome in that dress.

They even addressed my one complaint about this episode, which was how Callie could be so broke just because she lost her trust fund--she is a surgeon, I expect they make a pretty decent living. But if her dad cleaned out her bank accounts that makes more sense to me.

ITA with all of the above. And I agree with you that I saw this coming the moment that they announced that she had cancer. And I was surprised/not surprised by JDM being back. Mom and I had discussed that if he did reappear, it meant that Izzie was still dying. I just didn't expect him to show up until the season finale.

I know what you mean by the medical story line. And I think it's going to play into something coming up, a spoiler I heard about the show that I wasn't able to verify. But I haven't looked to verify it so I don't know how accurate it is, so it may be common knowledge.

For once I am unspoiled about Grey's--maybe you can explain the medical storyline issues next week.

I had heard JDM was going to be back for the 100th episode, but I assume now he is gone for good, as Izzie is either going to successfully have the tumor removed or die next week.

I cried when Alex cried, and I think he's putz most of the time. I also got teary eyed when Izzy said Cristina was honorable. I blubbered.

Both my daughter and I said at the same time 'she's the same size as Meredith?'. And Alex was wearing Sheppard's suit, so um, just no.

I loved Bailey for even suggesting it. She is such a softy. And I am so glad she is no longer wearing that mushroom hairstyle.

I was also wondering how Callie could be broke when she was living in the basement of the hospital, for years, no rent. As far as I know she had no car, no payments. But it made total sense with her dad cleaning out her account. Bastard.

Yeah. Both of those really strain credulity.

Yeah. It makes sense he had access to the bank account if he was depositing money for her, but damn, some of that money had to be what she earned in the hospital, so basically he was stealing from her. NOT ON, Callie's dad, NOT ON.
