Some recs for a Sunday afternoon

RPS and SPN

They Stumble That Run Fast by [livejournal.com profile] crackedbuthappy (Jared/Jensen). Marvellous college AU; Jared is a Latin geek but having trouble with his Shakespeare class; Jensen is an English geek and happy to tutor him. Jared likes Jensen, but Jensen seems besotten with Chris, so Jared agrees to play Cyrano for Chris. The ending, though, is pure Shakespeare.

The Syntax of Things by [livejournal.com profile] dotfic. (Dean/Castiel) Dean and Sam are hiding out both from the angels (who want Dean for their end-times schemes) and Lucifer (who wants Sam's body, mostly in the non-sexual sense). Then the Prophet Chuck arrives with an injured Castiel. Soon they all have to decide whether to continue playing it safe and hiding out, or whether to try to fight and win. One of my favorite post 4.22 stories so far.

And now for something completely different: [livejournal.com profile] rsadelle has been trying to convert me to bandom, and while I doubt it's going to take (I didn't make it through half the primers she sent me, and I still have no idea who 95% of these guys are) I still usually start most of the stories she recs to me, even though usually they lose me pretty early on. But sometimes they're fun enough that I read them as if they were just original fic.

So today she recommended You Can Sit Beside Me When the World Comes Down which is, um (checking authors notes) a Panic at the Disco story, and the pairing is Brenden/Spencer, if that means anything to you (it did not to me). She said it was worth reading solely for Spencer's cool mom, and I have to agree, probably the best fictional mom in recent memory. But what I loved about it was it was one of the most authentic-feeling high school AUs I've ever read, if solely for the bantery relationship between Spencer and his BFF Ryan. The romance part was sweet and fun, but honestly it was the friendship and family stuff that really hooked me with this.

Hey, now, you said I could send you links! (And I know you're not going to get sucked in anyway. I have the feeling it's not your kind of fandom.)

Oh, that was just context for people wondering why I am reccing a Panic at the Disco story, not snark. I recommended it, after all! Like I said, I read a couple paragraphs at least of everything you send me, so I am not complaining.
