questions about lj clients

What are the advantages of having a livejournal client, besides the ease of seeing who has recently friended/defriended you? Are there any clients, for example, that make linking to other journal entries easier? Are there other benefits?

Also, an unrelated question: is there any way to search the rss feeds available on livejournal, or is an alphabetical list the only option?

Coming from someone who posted through LJ's site for a long time, I find clients really helpful. Clients make it handy for automatically inserting all of the tags available... User tags, cut tags, quick links, etc. I've heard a lot of people say that they prefer Semagic and I do, too. It makes editing text a whole lot easier as well.

As for RSS feeds, I have no clue. :)

Thanks for the info. So it's easier to use tags with Semagic? Because I know I am always leaving out a crucial quotation mark somewhere, especially when posting a lot of links, so something that made that easier would definitely be helpful for me.

Semagic has drop down lists for the different tags that are available. Like with your friends, you can select a users name from a drop down list and it automatically inserts the tag for that user. As for links, there's a couple of different options... A quick link which is just the hyperlink, or a link with text, or linking a picture, etc. So yes, it definitely makes links easy to the point of just copy and pasting the URL into the box given.

Another thing is that you can define text macros in case there's HTML or something that you're constantly needing to type in and Semagic doesn't offer.

All in all, it's a really handy little program.

Thanks for letting me know about this--it sounds like a program that would be very helpful to me.

No problem! I hope you like it and that it's as helpful as it sounds.

i've used Semagic from the beginning at my main journal (over 4 years). it's a wonderful utility, even though i don't use all the bells & whistles. i code by hand, e.g., for simple things like links and photos, which is sort of flat-earth of me.

what i like best about it is the ease of editing past posts, and the way it functions as a dandy little word processor.

i have no experience with RSS, sorry.

Well, I probably should have downloaded Semagic *before* my whole recsfest, because typing out all those damn lj codes by hand was a pain. But thanks for letting me know about your experiences with it.
