Ok, I lied. I watched it right after I got back from seeing Whip It (which, for the record, is utterly charming and completely happy-making, and has given me a total crush on Ellen Page), and for the most part I thought it was a great episode.
Let's just get the two things I really hated out of the way, first:
1. The LIGHTING. WTF, Smallville crew? I mean, I get it that you've always liked to light Metropolis a little bit like it is Gotham, but this is taking it too far--I can barely see half of the scenes, they're so dark. This is not Supernatural! Please to be returning to the lovely visual palette you used for the first seven seasons of the show, perhaps slightly adjusted for the Metropolis setting but not so radically so that it physically hurts me. PLEASE.
2. OMG, PLEASE give Chloe another storyline, I'm begging you. I mean, yes, jealousy and the entitled feeling that she should be in control of Clark's life are established character traits of hers--her least attractive ones--but if this is going to be a whole season of Chloe finding new and more headdesky reasons to be jealous of Lois, I'm just going to start fastforwarding through her scenes, and I love Chloe. Note: please do not take this complaint as a license for Chloe bashing in my comments--that upsets me a lot and I won't engage with any of those kinds of comments .
Now for the things I loved like I love pizza :
3. TESS/LOIS FEMSLASH FOR THE WIN! Holy crap, the only way that scene could have been slashier is if they both actually tore off their clothes and had onscreen sex. Damn, between Tess having that Luthorian charisma and Lois having chemistry with inanimate objects, I just about combusted during that scene. *Flaily hands *
Anyone else in favor of a spinoff where there are somehow, you know, multiple Loises (maybe from alternate universes etc.) so Lois can just get it on with everybody without cheating on Clark? I'm also in favor of polyamory--really, that would be kind of fun, too.
And Lois blackmailing her way to getting her job back was just HOT, though I also love that it turned out Tess had ulterior motives.
4. The return of Dr. Emil! Yay! And with bonus expositiony goodness! See, we need him to be a recurring character, because meteor mutants are turning up all the time, and maybe he can heal them at least explain why they can't be healed. And it's nice to have a scientist on the side of good to counter the forces of Luthorcorp.
5. Speaking of which, good to see Luthorcorp is still continuing its nefarious scientific agenda even while under attack by the Kandorians--though wow, it's really scary to think of the Kandorians with that advanced tech. (Ok, maybe not advanced by their standards, but still!)
6. Brian Austin Green rocked the house. Damn, I felt so bad for John Corbin, waking up literally in a horror-movie nightmare, and having his legitimate quest for justice perverted by the Kryptonite brain poisoning. His fate was at least as much as a tragedy as his sister's. If they had to make him a bad guy, at least they made him an understandable one, and I liked that they kept the door open for him to come back.
7. Lois-Shelby bonding. That was just adorable. Also, THEY MENTIONED MRS. KENT!! Omg, how long has it been since they even mentioned her? I miss her.
8. Clark/Chloe reconciliation, because that really was a sweet scene (and I'm glad she seems to be over blaming him for Jimmy's death, at least for the most part).
9. Clark realizing that in some ways cutting human ties is a copout and that it isn't actually helping him. As much as I loved that scene of him being all supermanly on the roof listening to the whole world, I like that he's starting to realize he's going to have to balance his training and being human. I actually cheered when he walked into the Daily Planet.
10. Much as I love Lois' crush on the Blur (and her enthusiasm for helping him, and her faith in him), I love the Lois-Clark relationship even more, so I adored that final scene. The hug! Her backpedaling when she realized she was hugging him too long! The banter! And I liked that he was willing to listen to her, and then got the exact same goofy smile on his face that he had the first time he kissed her (as Green Arrow).

8.08 Bloodline, when Lois thought Clark's "care package" was from Martha, and 8.15 Infamous, Clark spoke to Martha on the phone when she told him that the Senate asked her to take a leave of absence in the alternate timeline.
I wasn't really paying attention to the lighting, but I agreed with almost everything else. I'm not going to bash Chloe, but I wish she would accept that she was the source for the majority of the grief that took place last season and stop trying to place equal (or more, sometimes it feels) blame onto Clark's shoulders.
As for BAG, this is definitely one time that I want a villain to come back. I really hope TPTB can get him back for at least one more ep because he was acting his ass off.
And I think I had a stupid grin on my face for everyone of the Clois and Lois/Blur scenes. Especially the last one. The staff at the DP have to either a) think those two are fucking like rabbits ALL THE TIME, or b) are having an office pool to see when they'll finally give in.

Yes, I was smoking just a little bit during that scene as well. But, this isn't the first time they've played up the slash between those two. I think it was seeing Lois in the French maid costume that really did it for Tess.
Totally agree about BAG. I was worried it would be too cartoonish too, but they really humanized him with the backstory.

It was great to hear Martha mentioned, but I also loved seeing the old farmhouse again. Knowing that Clark is still flying in to take care of Shelby makes me all kinds of happy.

Possibly my favorite Chloe/Clark scene ever. I really felt them connecting in an honest way that felt very believable.

I don't know, maybe it is my TV, but I just don't like the new filter they're using for Metropolis shots.
I think we both really liked the same things about this episode. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one picking up on the Tess/Lois chemistry!

I loved everything you did - it's amazing how happy that little mention of Martha made me. Hopefully they'll be doing lines like this a bit more. I agree that Metallo is one villain who I'd love to see return - wouldn't it be cool if he found out who created him and entered the fray against the Kryptonian as a bit of a loose cannon, so set on vengeance that he causes all kinds of collateral damage that Clark has to look after.

In any case, I think BAG did a superb job. You could really feel his horror at what had been done to him.
And Clark smiling at Lois at the end of the episode was so very perfect.

The Clark/Lois DP scene was definitely one of my highlights of the ep too, and for exactly the reasons you mention. It was absolutely adorable.

I felt terrible for Corben. Yes, I wanted Clark to save Lois (uhm, duh), but John was, in a sense, much more a victim than he was a villain. If he had gone in and ASKED to be krypto-ed out in order to take down the Blur, that would be one thing. But he didn't. It was out of his control. I like that Clark seemed to struggle a little bit with what he had to do.
Shelby! In multiple scenes! And a Martha mention! Eeek!
I agree, the lighting is...not great. I had to watch this last episode on Youtube, and if I wasn't directly facing the screen, it was hard to tell what was going on. Sigh.

And yeah, Corben was definitely a victim here. I mean, he didn't do any of the bad stuff until he was under the influence of Kryptonite, so I don't hold him very responsible for it.
