Flashforward

I keep going back and forth on whether I'm going to keep watching Flashforward, but last night's episode was actually kind of good.

Well, at least I will consider it good if Janis isn't dead. If they revealed she was a lesbian and gave her a gorgeous girlfriend only to kill her off, I will be PISSED. But my guess is she will get rescued. (Feel free to spoil me if you know for sure--I want to know). I loved all her interactions with her girlfriend, but I especially loved what a badass she was, both in the karate match and when she confronted those 2 assassins. Ok, the whole team was pretty damn badass, but she was the only one who was on her own, and I love that she managed to kill both of the assassins.

I also was very relieved that this episode, for a change, did not revolve around Mark and Olivia's marital problems. The political stuff was very well done, and a lot more interesting than the usual domestic drama, I thought. I especially loved all the little twists: that Peter Coyote turned out to be the president, that Wedeck used to be his right hand man and had covered up a serious scandal; that President Coyote's major enemy was a woman whose flash forward showed her she would be president; that she was sharp and savvy political opponent--all of that was 100 times more interesting to me than the past couple episodes. I'm a little confused as to how her flash forward could have her as president when the president's flash forward shows him (a) still alive and (b) still president, but whatever--it was great that he had to appoint one of his biggest enemies as VP just so his illegitimate child wasn't exposed.

I did wonder if it was going to turn out that the president is somehow involved in the conspiracy. I could see him ordering a hit on the Agent Wedeck so that he wouldn't be blackmailed in the future, but taking out his whole team seemed like overkill unless there's more to it. Though maybe he was responding to the threat posed by Mosaic, since it was through Mosaic that his mistress was found?

Anyway, everytime I think I'm going to drop this show it sucks me back in.

Agreed with everything you said! That was possibly my favourite episode.

I loved all her interactions with her girlfriend, but I especially loved what a badass she was, both in the karate match and when she confronted those 2 assassins.

Yes! I loved these parts best. :D
BTW, I've noticed that the actress who plays Janis is listed for at least 6 episodes on IMDB so I assume we'll see her again.
They better not kill her off, next to agent Know, she's my favourite. :)

I'm a little confused as to how her flash forward could have her as president when the president's flash forward shows him (a) still alive and (b) still president

I don't remember, did she say she saw herself as a president or that she saw herself in the Oval Office? Maybe she was there for some other reason and misinterpreted?

But I agree that the President might end up being the bad guy who ordered the hit.

Also, maybe they were building something in Somalia and testing some sort of weapons and are now trying to cover it up?

Yay for the IMDB news--I will be very happy if Janis survives. My only consoloation, if she's dead, is that we finally would have confirmation that the future can, in fact, be changed--but I'd rather find that out in a different way.

I didn't, unfortunately, tape the episode (I was taping Vampire Diaries instead, since people keep telling me it's gotten a lot better), so I'm not sure of the exact wording of the senator, but the impression I got was that she was actually president.

And you're right, the Somalia plot is intriguing--I'm not sure I have any idea what was going on there, at the moment. It would be interesting if it turned out that the Somalia discovery, rather than the blackmail, was why hitmen were sent after the team.

I just watched this today and tweeted a bunch of exclamation points. I loved the bits with Janis and her girlfriend (who was on The O.C. back in the day). They were so normalized - not played for titillation or shock value. (And isn't it bad when that's a huge deal?)

The original Somalia reveal was the thing that made me say, "Holy shit, this is awesome," out loud, so I love that it continues to be interesting.

Oh, *that's* where I recognized the girlfriend from. I thought she looked very familiar. And I agree with you about their relationship being very normalized. I hope Janis isn't dead! She's pretty much my favorite character on the show right now.

Yeah, the Somalia reveal was fascinating. And now the mysterious shapes--this show is finally starting to live up to its potential.

ITA with every point of your post. Even about how just when I think I might be out, it somehow manages to pullllll me back in.

Every week I tune in thinking "this is absolutely the last episode I'm watching", and then they drop one really interesting hint and I'm suckered in again. But the political plot this week makes me think they are actually creating a broader landscape than Mark and Olivia's marriage, thank god. (Though it's not the personal stuff itself I don't like--I loved Janis' storyline, and I'm really enjoying the bits we're getting of Demetri and Zoey's relationship; it's basically just Mark and Olivia who bore me).

I'm pretty sure Janis lives (she had better ... she's my favourite character!), but this episode was amazing with regards to character development. I think they did a good job with Janis and I liked that they didn't make a big deal out of the lesbian thing (though dammit, this has officially killed my Janis/Demetri ship). The fight at the end was also well done (dude, was she kickass or what?), especially with the alarm clock going "It's time to wake up!" in the background, while spinning around making patterns on the street with her blood. Creepy, but effective. :/

The political stuff was very interesting too. I read somewhere that former presidents are also called Mr. President, so those two flashforwards aren't necessarily contradictory to each other. I loved the twists too, especially the one involving the woman and the baby. They did a good job making it seem like it was Wedeck who was having an affair and then smoothly turned it around in the end. What a great episode for him ... I love the actor who's playing him, too. His reaction to finding out that Mark was drinking in his flashforward was pretty great.

I have no idea who could've ordered the attack. The President is the obvious choice here, but I think there has to be more to it than that, especially since Janis got attacked as well. Which, now that she got shot straight in the abdomen, can she still get pregnant? Or is that why she's crying in her flashforward? Because it's a miracle of some sort? Should be interesting to see where this all leads.

Oh, yeah, the alarm was *very* creepy. Especially if it turns out she's dead--which it had better not.

Good point about former presidents also being called Mr. President--AND they still have secret service protection, too. Hmmm...

I'm pretty sure if Janis lives her abdominal injury won't prevent her from getting pregnant.
