Various random things

1. I am trying very very hard not to spoil myself for SPN tomorrow night, but it is HARD. Every time I see a post labelled "spoilers" I literally have to sit on my hands.

2. In other TV news, anyone not watching "The Good Wife" is really missing out. It is not at all just another legal procedural; it's really all about the workings of power and how no one can escape them, and how you can get enmeshed in serious bad stuff just by trying to protect your friends and family. And one of the central ethical questions it keeps asking is whether it's better to deliberately be a player in power games, so you at least have a sense of control about it all, or to try to avoid them to remain ethically pure when really no one can accomplish that.

Also, Kalinda may be my favorite character of all TV EVER.

3. I am enjoying the unseasonably cool California weather. I mean, the azaleas are still blooming! They haven't been baked alive yet! (Azaleas are definitely my favorite flower).

4. Looking at the SPN Bigbang posting schedule (which this year runs from June 7 to August 20) makes me weep for my productivity this summer (and I have 3 enormous work projects I'm supposed to finish). Oh, how can I ever resist the lure of long long fiction?

5. Nevertheless, I am getting excited about some of my summer work projects, which is unusual for me, so yay!

6. My plans to join a health club to get back in shape this summer are somewhat confounded by the health club (which I had chosen after a fair bit of research) going out of business. :-\ Stupid economy.

7. I didn't get to see Iron Man this weekend because the 2 showtimes my friend and I selected were both sold out, so we ended up seeing "How to Train A Dragon" instead--and I realize I am rather late to the party here, but I found it absolutely charming and heartwarming, and the dragon was so damn cute I am rather annoyed to find, looking at online stores, that there is no "Toothless" stuffed animal available for purchase anywhere.

8. There is no number 8.

I really liked what I've seen from rhe only one episode of "The Good Wife" I caught channel surfing the other day. The strength of its story and characterization reminds me a lot of "Damages", another show that I also stumbled upon a while ago. Not sure that I can add two more concurrent shows at the moment though. :p

Yes, I think it is a bit similar to Damages (though I only watched 3 episodes of that show before I had to drop it for lack of time)--but it strikes me as a little less cutthroat than Damages, which is helpful for me, both because I find it easier to watch sympathetic characters and because it's more interesting to me when sympathetic characters do bad things because they're trapped in situations where there are no good choices, only less bad ones.

Re: The Good Wife. I have spared all the episodes but I was about to thow them out due to lack of harddrive space... I really don't know how or why I.m not watching: I find the premise intriguing, the actors very watchable etc. But now I'm just gonna have to watch this. Thank you for your perspective, it's making me all I-have-to-watch-that.

It does kind of build slowly, but really the last 6 episodes or so I've just found riveting. And all the women on the show are remarkably complex and have very interesting relationships with each other, which I love.

I agree. Loved it.

Good luck with your summer plans! :-)

Thanks! And yeah, I may actually have to buy the dragon movie; it is just the thing to cheer a person up on a bad day.
