A couple more random thoughts related to the SPN finale
Spoilers, natch.
1. I've been thinking that the "pit" that Sam ends up in isn't quite the same hell Dean was in. (This thought inspired by several codas where Sam has been tormented umpty more times than Dean, because God forbid fangirls don't turn everything into a competition). The reason I think this is (a)it seems that most ordinary demons basically thought Lucifer was a myth or a fairy tale, which makes me think his hell was at the very least at a very different location in hell than everyone else's hell--maybe he has his own level or something; and (b)I doubt that there was a physical connection between Lucifer's hell and ordinary hell, or Lucifer could have slipped out the back door a long time ago. My sense is that Lucifer's hell is more of an isolation booth than anything else.
(Of course, I'll probably be proven wrong immediately at the start of next season).
My theory doesn't mean Sam does't suffer a lot in hell, of course. I'm sure neither Michael nor Lucifer is very pleased with him, and those are two angels I wouldn't want mad at me. I just mean I doubt he's being tortured by random demons.
2. I've been wondering if the fact that Lucifer and Michael are both in vessels is going to alter their experience. Do they have to stay that way? (My guess would be no, but who knows). If they do stay that way, it's actually possible that Sam (and Adam) aren't actually experiencing anything since they're being suppressed by the angels. I expect Sam pretty much used up all his power getting into the pit. Though if Michael and Lucifer can de-vesselize themselves, I feel bad for Sam and Adam.
3. I said in my original review that I don't think Sam is a ghost or possessed when he returns, but I did have a thought. Death was so insistent that Dean let Sam jump in the pit--I wonder if that means he made Sam a reaper?
