A few more bigbang recs

More SPN/RPS recs. As always, if you like your recs unmixed with crit, don't click. And authors, if you got here by vanity googling yourself, you might want to hit the back button; my reviews can be critical.

I Know What a Prince and a Lover Ought to be (Jared/Jensen) by [livejournal.com profile] hizashikage. I really enjoyed this AU set in a land where the kingdom of Ackles and the kingdom of Padalecki are bitter rivals. As a child, Jensen befriends another young boy, Jay, not realizing he is from the rival kingdom. As adults, they meet again at a royal wedding and initially dislike each other, but soon can't fight their growing attraction. I really loved all the byzantine court politics in this story, though my favorite part was their encounter as children.

Hearts Brighter Than Starry Skies (Sam/Dean). When Sam turns 16, John sends Sam and Dean on a survival trip, armed only with a couple of machetes. They have to deal not only with unexpected monsters and illnesses, but their growing feelings for each other. This was angsty but sweet first-time Wincest. Those of you with animal harm squicks should read the author's grayed-out warning.

One Safe Place (Sam/Dean) by [livejournal.com profile] delanach. Entertaining AU that breaks away from canon after the siren episode in season 4. Dean leaves Sam, Anna decides to take a more active role, and Chuck finds out that he's not writing fiction. The characterizations are good, and they saved Pam from a needless death, so basically I was happy with this story.

Time is Fluid by [livejournal.com profile] kimberleyqaf (Jared/Jensen). Jared and Jensen meet in a bar, and there are sparks, but Jared is happily married with a daughter, so both of them try to suppress the attraction and just be friends. But then Jared finds out some unsettling things about his husband, and he needs Jensen's help. A gripping domestic thriller with a nice, slow-building romance. Some people at spnpermanon had issues with the dialogue tags, but to be honest I didn't notice them. (Though you probably will now that I've pointed them out!)

Until You Catch On (Jared/Jensen). There's honestly not a lot of conflict in this story--the obstacles to the romance are mainly imagined on Jensen's part--but if you're in the mood for a sweet, semi-schmoopy Jared-Jensen romance, this fits the bill. Jensen is working for his dad's publishing house and feeling kind of trapped in his life until he meets Jared, a college student and part time waiter.

Planetfall (Jared/Jensen) by [livejournal.com profile] ciaan. My first reaction this story was "more, more, more" and I almost wrote that in my comment, but the author specifically requested people not ask for more because she has writer's block. But seriously, I could read 100,000 more words of this AU, where Jared is a space pirate who captures Jensen, scion of a noble house, as he is embarked on a scientific mission. They end up crash landing on a planet and have to survive together. My favorite part of this story is the cultural differences between Jared and Jensen. Jensen has lived his whole life on space stations and finds nature messy and repulsive. He is also dangerously naive about the politics of his empire. Jared is a pirate as a means of protesting the tyranny of the empire. The story ends a little too soon for me--it's not completely unresolved, but their relationship is left in limbo. Still, I really enjoyed this.

What would I do without you? I just clicked over to the BB and stalled--too many choices! Thank goodness for your recs!

I read and really enjoyed The Tragedy of Life by [livejournal.com profile] lizzywinks. It was kind of angsty, but also funny--weird but it worked very well. The author had a great hand with humor.

Thanks, I will check that out when I'm not travelling. (I'm currently in San Francisco to spend a couple days with the globetrotting [livejournal.com profile] bop_radar.
