tonight's tv

Oh, Smallville. Only one more week.

Um. Well, that happened. I did think Lois' giddiness when she got Clark's powers was cute, as was her teasing him about cocking his head for superhearing, but that was pretty much all I got out of the episode. Kara seemed extremely wasted here, and I hated that she listened to Jor-El. Ollie's plotline would be more compelling if I didn't fear it was all going to have to be resolved way too quickly in the first part of the finale (as with the whole Darkseid plot) to make way for the return of Lex. And damn, I thought Lois was smarter than to (a) cave to the obvious manipulations of Toyman and (b) to think it is possible for Clark to spend every waking moment as a superhero without getting completely burned out. Not that I actually think the wedding is off, of course.

I'm just--I don't know--now kind of convinced that the finale is not going to live up to 10 years of buildup? But what could, really? I just feel like they've really squandered the last few episodes of this show.

And Supernatural was...not what I was expecting.

I guess I was hoping for some revelations about Castiel I hadn't already guessed? I mean, I love Cas, so the fact that this was a Cas-centered episode, and that we got to see his emotional journey, was great, as was the revelation that so many of his actions were to protect "the boys" (regardless of how misguided or downright fucked up a lot of his choices were). And the banter with Crowley was always a treat, as was Dean's desparate defense of him, and then Dean's inevitable feeling of betrayal.

I guess I was just hoping for more. I definitely wanted to know exactly how souls are currency.

I did like a couple of elements of the story, though. Crowley changing hell into standing in line was brilliant (and I swear I read that in someone's fic once upon a time, only it was Cas ruling hell?) I also loved that apparently angels can't create their own heavens but borrow from human ones. That was a really nice touch.

And I really can't wait to see what some of the good Dean/Cas writers can do with all the relationship stuff in this ep. But still, overall the episode felt like a letdown.

Yeah, Smallville was awful. I really haven't liked this season much so don't hold out any hope that the finale will be any good. I just hope Clark and Lex get to make sexy eyes at each other. If that happens I'll be satisfied.

I'm kind of dreading the finale, to be honest--what if they manage to mess up even the Clark and Lex stuff? But then I remind myself that for some reason, finales and premieres are the only thing the SV writing staff does well, so maybe it won't suck. :-(
