smutrecs fest day 26

Today's Clex rec is [livejournal.com profile] sabershadowkat's Haunted Heart.

I love all of [livejournal.com profile] sabershadowkat's writing--the "Infinite Possibilities" series is my favorite SV AU *ever*, but I can't rec that one yet because it *still* hasn't gotten to the smutty parts. But that's ok, because Haunted Heart *does* have smut, and it's one of the most romantic and bittersweet stories in SV fandom. It's an AU in which Clark doesn't save Lex on the bridge that day, and he has an ability that he doesn't have in canon: he can communicate with ghosts. Lex's ghost is hanging around earth to complete one final task; Clark helps him out with it, and they fall in love. This is a gorgeous story, though it always leaves me a little achey inside.

And if reading "Haunted Heart" whets your appetite for bittersweet SV ghost stories, then do not miss [livejournal.com profile] estrella30's A Shiver in Autumn. Not smutty, but definitely gorgeous and heartbreaking This time Clark is the ghost, visiting all the people he loves.

But if you need something sweet and funny to counteract all the heartbreak, go to today's mystery rec, which is humor.

Today's SV mystery rec is [livejournal.com profile] harriet_spy's The Scientific Method (Clark/Lex).

This is a hilarious PWP, set in season one. Now that Clark knows he's an alien, he's not entirely sure he's normal *down there.* So he asks Lex --as a friend--to check him out. Just in case.

Today's "other fandom rec" is WB: RPS, which is currently dominating my flist in terms of fannish output. (And to think there was a time when I just didn't *get* RPS!)

As I mentioned above, I love [livejournal.com profile] sabershadowkat's SV stories, but they mainly tend to be plotty rather than smutty. (Not that I'm complaining! I love long plotty stories! It's only problematic when you're doing smutrecs and some of your favorite authors don't write a lot of smut). Henry's RPS, on the other hand, is unrestrained dirty pornalicious fun. I particularly love How Far would you go and its sequel How Far Would you go again , which features scorchingly hot MR/TW/JA smut.

Bonus WB RPS rec: estrella's If I should fall behind (JA/JP). I decided not to do recs in Supernatural or SGA, because they are already seducing too many excellent writers away from SV, dammit--but I'll make an exception for WB RPS of the non-MR/TW kind, because it's just too damn hot not to. Especially when [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 is writing it. This is an expansion of her story from [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis's porn battle, and it's *damn* hot. “Holy fucking hell,” Jensen groans after a minute. Jared pulls back and smiles. He tugs Jensen’s pants up and stands up with a grin.

“So.” Jared says, completely innocent. As if he didn’t just have Jensen’s cock in his mouth. “You want to clean up and get another drink or something?”

Jensen fixes himself and smirks. “Hell no.” He grabs a handful of Jared’s hair and quietly says against his ear, “I want to go home and fuck you stupid.”

oh, i adore Infinite Possibilities! i first wrote to henry jones to say how much i loved her feral lex with the little tuft of red hair! every chapter makes me want more savagely to strangle clark, though. when he pushes lex away, i swear. aargh. :D

Haunted Heart i've read several times. lovely thing, such lingering sweet sadness.

as for her RPS, i read How Far but didn't know there was a sequel. i found the first story disturbing because they tricked him, got him drunk! those rat bastards! (TW portrayed as Not Nice is hot but a little upsetting to me, because he has that angelic face. well, not always, come to think of it. he does know how to pose. *g*) but i can buy MR as easily gulled and, for that matter, easily taken. god, how i love him. ha!

p.s. the Scientific Method is hilarious! thanks for the laugh, which (as you said) is welcome after the sadness. and now for the rps raunchiness. ;)

I haven't seen The Scientific Method recced before, but I've always thought it was really funny, so I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, "Infinite Possibilities" has a great Lex. (I actually *like* Clark in IP; he's very believable for the alternate life he has, and especially given his almost uncontrollable sexual impulses. It's true I get annoyed sometimes by how he treats Lex, but I'm sure Henry will get us to the romantic parts *eventually* so I'm not too worried.)

clark is doing his best, i suppose, given the premise (studly stan!). i just feel so protective of that lex, who seems so pure in the sweetest way; but he's also very strong, i think. i trust too that we'll get to romance before too long. :)

What's interesting about RPS is how completely malleable it is, because there isn't even canon to work with--just a few bits and pieces about the actors' lives we happen to know. So I'm actually kind of intrigued by TW as *not nice* (have you seen Lenore's latest story in that vein?), because it goes against fannish expectations.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
that's true about malleability. thamiris's RPS stories (TW/MR) blow my socks off, and i like her version of the actors. holy cats.

yes, i found my way to that new story just today. you mean the one with the baseball game and jared leto in the shower? it was well done, for sure. (i have no interest at all in supernatural or in leto & ackles, so i sort of shared her version of tom's affront at being the OLD tom welling. *g*)

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
uhm. i just wrote that i'm affronted at being the old tom welling. oh man, i'd be ANY version of tom welling in a heartbeat. imagine being that pretty. :D

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think you meant Jared Padelecki, above. And I wasn't really into Jensen Ackles even when he was on SV, but as usual great writers have convinced me that he is sexy. Not enough to become a huge Supernatural fan--I can take or leave the show, and only read stories when they're by authors I love--but enough to really enjoy WB RPS even when it's JA/JP rather than MR/TW.

TW actually looks a lot like one of my brothers, except for his hair, which is probably one of the reasons I lust for MR more than him. But it does mean if I were a boy I might have looked like him. And I don't know--there are advantages to being pretty, but when you're *really* pretty people often assume you are dumb.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
oh, duh, you're too right. i had my wires crossed. leto was in a film with rosenbaum that i rented just to see him, that urban legends thing, so i probably have the wrong jared stuck in my mind. but i've seen photos of padalecki, and he's really good looking.

you have a brother who looks like welling? oh man. has he been pestered by girls/women all his life? as for pretty people having a hard time being taken seriously, i've seen that that's true. (not a problem i've ever had! *g*)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know that he was pestered, exactly, but he didn't have trouble picking up girls, before he was married. (Keeping them was another story...) But I know a lot of very pretty people in real life, and the fact is, they're not pretty *all the time*. It makes a difference, what you're wearing, and what your attitude is, and whether you're projecting sex or just boredom, and all that stuff. TW's prettiness is only partly natural, and partly acting and crafting his image. Most pretty people I know don't spend that much time on their image unless they're actively trying to pick people up.

Oh, and you know, my brother *looked* like TW when he was 17, and had a good haircut. And then he went to college, and decided mullets were cool (this was the 80s), and gained 50 lbs, etc. And today he's losing his hair. Beauty fades. It really makes me glad I'm *not* an actor.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
mullets! aieee! well. huh.

excellent points, all. i suppose i have in the recesses of my heart that plain girl's secret adoration of the Really Beautiful Man. (or Woman, if she's gay!) you're right that welling, in many photos, is just ok looking. i forget the artifice of acting and modeling. and you're right that having to maintain youthful beauty must be all-consuming!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, sure. I did *not* get the looks in my family, so I totally understand. (And I didn't mean to sound preachy, either--I was just starting to feel my age, a bit, thinking about how old my brother looks right now. Sigh.)

"The Scientific Method" is one of my all-time favorites. I just love young, clueless Clark, especially when he asks Lex for sex advice!

Also, I'd like to thank you for these ongoing recs. You've introduced me to some wonderful stuff I managed to miss along the way!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-02-26 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear that. I know that a lot of the new SV fen wouldn't have read all of these, but I was a little worried that folks who had been around for a while would have already read all of these stories before.

I am saber's minion. I love Haunted Heart and Infinite Possibilities. I'd do her grocery shopping. :)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-02-27 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. Sometimes when I am depressed I just go to her page and start reading, and it always cheers me up.
