I suppose I should write about my reactions to last week's Smallville before the new one this week.
Thoughts on "Hidden" behind the cut.
I pretty much loved this episode, despite the strange experience of watching it with a bunch of Clana fanatics. I didn't mind them cheering the Clark/Lana scenes--I actually think the opening scene was pretty cute, and Lana was actually *funny*--I am surprising myself by liking Lana this season, at least so far. What was annoying about the people I was watching with was they actually hissed at Lex during his scenes! (These are all coworkers, by the way, and I don't think I'll be watching Smallville with them in the future, needless to say!)
I think I have to agree with Omar that the scene where Clark confronts his parents after they discover him and Lana is one of the best in the whole series--so damn funny! Especially Martha! And really right out of fanfiction, confirming what everyone already guessed: Martha is the more realistic one when it comes to sexual relationships, and Jonathan is more moralistic and a bit of a hypocrite. (Still, for a moment in the Lion-El scene I was a little panicked that they were going to kill Jonathan off in THIS episode, before he and Clark had a chance to reconcile, and I surprised myself by getting a little teary-eyed. Even though Jonathan can be very judgmental and annoying, he clearly loves Clark.)
Oh, and the Lion-El scene literally gave me chills. What a fantastic plot twist, and not simply because it gives John Glover, who I love love love, a chance to show his range. Think of the fictional possibilities with this! Are we even sure that Lionel is back to himself at the end of the episode, and he's not really still Jor-El? Or perhaps Jor-El is in control of part of him?
Finally, as always I loved Chloe in this episode. I know a lot of people thought it was out of left field to invent "Gabe" as a friend of hers, but that didn't bother me so much--we know she has tons of contacts through the Torch, and it's not like Smallville really spent that much time at the high school! And in a way I sympathized with Gabe--he's right that the new meteor shower *is* going to create a whole new wave of mutants (not that I agree with his solution, of course). I loved that they gave Chloe the tag scene with Clark; I really wonder if they are, in fact, going in the Chlark direction after the inevitable Lexana. I frankly wouldn't mind Lexana if it gets Clark and Chloe together.
Oh, one more thing: is there anyone who isn't sure it's Jonathan who's going to die? I mean, I realize Chloe could possibly be considered an option, but considering the deal Jonathan made with Jor-El two seasons ago, it seems inevitable that he's the one who will die. I still expect Chloe's death to come, but probably caused by Lex and leading to the final rift between Lex and Clark. And if Smallville gets renewed this year--given how well it's doing in the ratings, that doesn't seem unlikely--I bet Jonathan to die in February or May sweeps and Chloe to be killed off near the end of the last season.
