poll results

A very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] aelora!

Since I'm sure you've all been dying to know which was my real opinion, I'll reveal all in this post. The most popular vote was "Lana Lang would win in a hair-off with John Sheppard." Now, I'll have to admit, that was a bit of a trick response, because even though I said that very thing in my comments the day before, I don't think Lana actually would win in a hair-off with John Sheppard; I just think she ought to win. When you combine (a) the massive popularity of SGA in general, and John Sheppard in particular (there is actually a mood theme entirely centered on Sheppard's hair!) with (b) the unpopularity of Lana, my guess is that Lana wouldn't win. So that statement was false.

Though, to be fair, I should do a little scientific study here. In case you need visuals, here is a good Lana hair shot and a good Sheppard hair shot (in my opinion, anyway); what do you think?

[Poll #761508]

If anyone has better hair pictures of either party, feel free to drop them in the comments. Honestly, I spent hours looking for a Sheppard pic that didn't just look messy, and since I'm not in SGA fandom I was probably looking in the wrong places. And I'm particular partial to the wavier hair Lana was sporting late in season 5, but if anyone has better pics I'd appreciate them.

The second most popular poll result was "Brandon Routh is a better Clark Kent than Tom Welling." And since I *also* said that last week in my journal, I can see why people voted that way. But I only kind of half agree with that, if I'm being completely honest. I do love Routh's sweet and dorky Clark Kent, and that's definitely the type of Clark Kent closest to my heart--but Routh's Clark Kent couldn't possibly be in love with Lex. And I've spent too long invested in Welling's angsty Clark to really allow him to be displaced so easily. And he's the one in love with Lex, and Clex is my favorite version of the Superman myth.

So which statement was true? I like Lexana, but not better than Clex! And sorry, but while I enjoyed Kevin Spacey's Luthor, I didn't get the impression that he was really that big in the brains department. Even now, at only half evil, I'm pretty sure MR's Lex could beat him with one hand tied behind his back. (MR's Lex would definitely not have let Parker Posey screw him over--he knows better than to trust love interests!!) And I know no one on my flist who actually reads my journal thinks I like SGA better than SV.

SO, now you know the truth: I think Stephen Colbert is a sexy, sexy man. Even more than Jon Stewart. This is actually true. I don't get to watch his show that much, because normally I'm in bed by 11, but lately I've been watching the rebroadcasts at 8:30 and wondering how I ever lived without them. And that's the WORD.

Damn stupid UK release dates! I need to formulate an opinion on the various positives of any given Lex. I have to say though my unfailing faith in MR goes a long way, much as I love and respect Spacey's acting talents.

It's so freaking frustrating. I know I can get my hands on a pirate cope, but not watching it on the big screen, it like stealing from yourself. Like knowing where people are hiding your Christmas presents and checking them out before the big day.

Wow, that sucks! I hope you get to see it soon.

My favourite Lana hair is this one

from the end of season 3, I just think she looks so pretty and awesomely wonderful.

I've seen Colbert once I think, and that was only on youtube so it was a teeny tiny picture.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm probably going to make a bunch of Colbert icons soon, so you can see more pictures of him, but I don't know if pictures really convey why I think he's sexy. It's partly that he's my particular physical type--dark-haired skinny older guys with glasses--and partly how hilarious he is. OH! I don't know if the film "Strangers with Candy" is going to be released over there or not, but he's in it.

And thanks for that Lana picture--that's lovely.

Oh, if you're curious, go here: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/index.jhtml and watch "Threat Down: The Homo Sexy edition". I can't preview it (damn dial-up), but I saw about three or four of the segments he did for gay pride and they were all hilarious.

[identity profile] sadface.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, cool thankyou! I shall go look.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
i almost went with colbert, but then i waffled. glad to know you don't really think MR would lose out to KS.

just last night i finished my first SGA fanfic, not having seen a single episode of the show. (a friend wrote it, is why i read it.) i couldn't understand why, over and over, she referred to sheppard's weird hair, like the messiness was terribly endearing. i may have to watch an episode to get an idea of what she meant about it going off in all directions!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, here's a more typical picture of Sheppard:

Image (http://photobucket.com)

I don't particularly like the sticking-up hair, myself, but in most of the stills I looked at that was pretty typical.

Really, it wasn't a completely fair poll, since I don't think I've ever actually talked about my Stephen Colbert love in my journal!

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, he IS cute! it was hard reading the story -- i could not get his face fixed in my mind, and all through the thing i kept seeing jake gyllenhaal, for some damn reason. oh nooooo. (he does nothing for me.)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Just be careful you don't slip over to the dark side!!

(I'm just kidding, btw. I've read *tons* of SGA fic and I'm still in SV. I've even seen a few SGA episodes now that they're in syndication and remain unconvinced. If you're looking for good SGA, though, I highly recommend everything by [livejournal.com profile] astolat.)

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
ha, ok, i'll resist the blandishments of Evol. :D

thanks for the rec. i'll go look at her stuff. :)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and if you want visual references for the characters, [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn has nice pictures of pretty much the whole cast in her lj banner: Rodney, Teyla, John, Ronon, Elizabeth.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
aha! that's very helpful. the story featured ronon and teyla, and i had no idea they were in the show! sneaky author. *g*

i don't see myself giving up Clex anytime real soon, though. the guys have taken up residence in my subconscious, big-time.

[identity profile] kristiinthedark.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Colbert vs. Stewart??? I wouldn't be able to choose, I swear. They're both so smart and well-spoken and fall down sexy. *sigh* I'd be happy either way.

Damn. I don't know which icon to choose! Stephen or Jon. Stephen or Jon....

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It is really tough! There are a couple things that tip it over to Stephen for me: (a) He's a big-ass fanboy. He has RPS on his own site! Plus he's a big Tolkien fan! (b) He looks almost exactly like this guy I had a crush on for about 5 years.

But Jon Stewart is pretty damn sexy, I must say!
ext_9263: (jon stewart tie)

[identity profile] kristiinthedark.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are good reasons, I concur. Especially the RPS thing. I love it when a celebrity type person "gets" it. And The Word is the best thing EVER. But Jon does that giggle thing. And the pulling out his hair thing whenever Bush pisses him off. Plus, you know, he's got that awesome temper.

It's just a tough decision all the way around.

And, yeah, mostly I just wanna use my new Jon Stewart icon. *g* Give the guys equal time.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yumm. Jon looks *good* in that icon, too.

[identity profile] mailerose.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen Stephen Colbert's name around, but I honestly have no idea who he is or what he does. Because I'm really that out of the loop.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
My flist is very international, and it occurs to me I don't know where you're from, so that may be an issue. Stephen Colbert is a fake journalist who used to be on Jon Stewart's *The Daily Show* on comedy central. He now has a spin-off of his own, The Colbert Report , which spoofs right wing talk-shows by taking all their bad habits and hilariously exaggerating them. The link I gave [livejournal.com profile] toadstoolsmiles is a good example of that.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh drat, double drat. Your real opinion was the one I went 'huh?!' too! Wouldn't you know it. I've seen snippets of Jon Stewart, but never Stephen Colbert.

I love that your f'list is voting in Lana over John. And I've seen that moodtheme too and can safely say I don't get it. Although I could get behind a Welling-hair theme, just because of Lex's 'good hair' line. Ditto a Chase or Cameron good hair theme for House.

But I am relieved that you are loyal to angstyWelling!Clark and MR!Lex, because so am I. I could enjoy the movie Clark and Lex as separate. But you're soooo right about 'our' Lex re. Parker Posey. I would *love* to script them a scene together! She'd get shredded!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I think you might have to have been subjected, at some point, to the horrors of American right wing talk shows, to really get Stephen Colbert, but there are a lot of funny clips from the show here: http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/the_colbert_report/index.jhtml.

Right now Lana is winning, but let's see if that's still true tomorrow!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Cool! I'll check the clips out. I've seen a documentary about Fox that made me quake with horror. We have nothing so overt here. It's just mid-range mediocrity. Still objectionable, but less over-the-top.

And have faith! I think Lana will win as long as one of the crossover folks doesn't tip off their f'list to mob your journal and skew the voting. *frowns around suspiciously*

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
PS. I didn't think Jon Stewart was sexy at all. Smart, yes. Sexy, no. My first reaction was 'wow, he's kinda old', as I'd always pegged him as a younger guy.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
BLASPHEMER!!!!!

Um, sorry, that was reflex. He's in his late 30s. I think, actually, he's my age. (Ahem).

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm wrong--I just looked him up and he's actually 44.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
*lol*
Yes, you see!
(In any case, all I MEANT was that I had thought he was in his 20s, but no. I think I assumed this because the only people here doing leftist satire are very young--i.e. below 30. Finding out he was older was a good thing. It leant him more gravitas.)

And also, it's funny to make you yell at me! *giggle*

(Aside: My boyfriend has a long-running joke about how I can't tell people's ages very well, because when we first started dating I was sure he was in his 30s but he was only 27.)

[identity profile] aelora.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, hon!!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! I hope you had a great day.
