Clerks II

Yesterday, when they were forecasting 112 degrees (44 C) in my neck of the woods, my air conditioner started making scary grinding noises, so I decided to turn it off for a while and spend the day at the movies.

I've been somewhat excited about Clerks II for a long time. I have a profound love of the first movie because I went to college in New Jersey, and the first film captured New Jerseyness so well that I felt like I actually knew some of the characters in it. It definitely gave me the Kevin Smith love, though I haven't actually seen all his films. (I love Dogma and Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but I never made it through Mall Rats and I haven't seen Jersey Girl).

I thought "Clerks II" was very enjoyable. Like all Kevin Smith movies, it had some fantastic dialogue, especially in the realm of geekdom (I loved the Star Wars v. LOTR debate) and sex ("you never go ass to mouth!"), and I loved both the recurring characters and the new ones. I especially loved Elias, the Christian transformer geek with the fear of pussy trolls, and Becky (Rosario Dawson), Dante's manager.

I wish the actors playing Dante and Randal were better actors, though. (Am I remembering correctly that they were amateurs when Kevin Smith first cast them?) Some of the scenes between Dante and Becky, especially, were painful to watch because the actor playing Dante is *so* bad--I felt like I was watching really awful community theater. I think his bad acting was especially apparent because Rosario Dawson is so good, and this was a big problem because their relationship is supposed to be the heart of the movie.

Still, if you like Kevin Smith, you'll probably love this. It was definitely hilarious and worth seeing.

Thanks for the heads up! I heard a radio interview with Kevin Smith and the guys who play Randal and Dante, which got me really pumped to see this sucker.

I'm glad it was enjoyable. :D

I haven't heard any interviews, but I guess the film is doing pretty well--it beat the Uma Thurman superhero movie, anyway.

I only heard the other day on friendsfriends that there was a Clerks II - actually I thought they were thinking about making it, not already had! I loved the first one, but I'm not really sure what I think of a sequel, hmm.

Well, it's been years since I saw the first one, so I'm not sure I can compare them, but I think it's the best written film of Kevin Smith's that I've seen.

Clerks II, you mean?

Yep.

I'm even more excited about seeing this now than I was before, and I was pretty damn excited then! I can't get enough of Kevin Smith. A friend of mine tipped me off about some new vids posted on his site, myboringasslife, I think it's called. Mewes on the set of Clerks II being, well Mewes I guess. Apparently not for the faint hearted either. I'm toddling off to check them out now, hope I'm remembering the add right. *boggles that it isn't on my favorites*

I just saw it a while ago, and trust me, you may wanna give it a miss, unless you feel a violent need to see Jason Mewes' balls. I just....... I just don't know what to do with that.
