Smutrecs fest day 17

Today's Clex rec is Sorrel's Trichotomy.

Clark is not quite the man Lex thought he was--in fact, he's three different men, and Lex is obsessed with them all. This is maybe less explicitly porny that a lot of the other stories I'm recommending this month--it has exquisitely drawn desire, but the consummation is more focused on character interaction than sex per se-- but it does have a few very hot scenes, and I love this because it's an interesting character insight into Clark, and the way only Lex meets all his needs.

The Smallville mystery recs of the day are both by [livejournal.com profile] nifra_idril:
No Quarter and Breathless and True.

In No Quarter, Lionel makes Jonathan dirty--complete with Nifra's always gorgeous prose style. Yum, yum, yum. I really think this fandom needs a *lot* more Lionel/Jonathan (and Lionel/Martha, and Lionel/Clark, and Lionel/Chloe, and I think you're getting the impression that I love Lionel, which is correct.)

I think I recced a Chlana story yesterday or the day before and said that I always wanted more femslash, with Chloe/anyone, in Smallville, but since I only started liking Lana in season 5, I didn't really read much Chlana. This is Nifra, though, and I'll read anything she writes. And Breathless and True totally sold me on the relationship, here, partly because we get to see Lana through Chloe's eyes. This, though, is a gorgeous, sensual story.

Today's Blast from the Past rec is Brighid, "Exit Wound" (Sentinel: Jim/Blair), with a bonus rec, Like Oil for Latkes . (Jim/Blair)"

Sentinel was the very first slash fandom I got into without ever having seen the source text. (By now I've seen a few episodes, but mainly enough to know what the guys look like). So I have a general sense of canon events, but I can't, for example, name a single episode title. I read this fandom mainly because a lot of my favorite authors from other fandoms (especially Highlander) were writing in it). I'm not sure that the following rec is technically a smutrec, because sex is not the *point* of the story--but nevertheless I wanted to recommend "Exit Wound" because I love stories that use sex in interesting ways in the story structure.

"Exit Wound" is set, I believe, after the end of the series, when Blair has finally become Jim's official partner. In the story, Blair has to use his weapon to defend Jim, and most of the story is about the aftermath of that decision. I completely adore the structure of this story --we get both Jim and Blair's perspective on things, but in different order. I also marvel at the way the sex scene, as seen from their two perspectives at two different points in the story, takes on completely different meanings. And I am in *love* with the poem used as an epigraph. This story is gorgeous and very bittersweet.

And because it is bittersweet, I wanted to recommend another of Brighid's Sentinel stories, in case you needed to be cheered up afterwards. Like Oil for Latkes is a wonderful, sensuous Hanukkah story that is sweet and schmoopy and fun (though there's no actual porn).

like oil for latkes! what a fabulous title! i've read some sentinel stories, without ever having seen any of the show at all. i like the characters, so will give that one a go.

lionel makes jonathan dirty? well now. for my own private enjoyment, i've written a few AU-type stories featuring lex. the latest was a whim -- lex and jonathan (nothing physical). what is it about combining characters oddly that's so much fun?

I don't know why combining characters oddly is fun, but I do love it. (Lex/Martha is another pairing I really kind of love, even though I only know of about 3 stories that feature it). But Lionel/Jonathan is actually a classic enemy slash pairing, and I think if more SV fen were interested in the older generation (Lionel, Jonathan, Martha) it might pop up more often.

Hey, you should post those stories! I'd like to read them.

ok, the one that's fairly presentable (if a little odd) will be in my lj shortly. :)
