Veronica Mars

Hmm. I feel like there's a lot of stuff in tonight's Veronica Mars, but I'm too tired for my brain to really function. Anyone see any good meta they'd like to recommend? Meanwhile,
a few random thoughts on tonight's episode.

Ok, I confess to stepping out of the room to make dinner--how did the Dean convince Keith not to turn him in? I saw him say "What would do if it was Veronica"--did I miss anything beyond that? Did they just end up stealing that guy's bone marrow and paying him off with a car?

I knew Weevil would not turn out to be the thief, more because Veronica suspected he was than for any other reason, since they do seem to be emphasizing the price of Veronica's suspicious nature this season. Is she going to have any friends by the end of this season?

And speaking of friends--again, I was distracted by making dinner. Did Wallace turn in that mechanical engineering dude? That's what it looked like, but did we see any actual consequences or follow up for that, other than inviting Veronica for snickerdoodles?

I am really torn what to make of the way Veronica treated that little girl, who was definitely mini-Veronica, complete with the semi-sheriff dad and the class issues and the smart-assness. Are we supposed to see her as turning into the very people that persecuted her? Is she supposed to see that? Is ripping the necklace off the girl a sign that she's lost all empathy for her younger self, or what? I mean, I know the necklace was important to her, but damn.

I suppose I will have to rewatch this episode with brain cells sometime. Meanwhile, I really really hope they're not actually setting it up that Claire faked the rape, because UGH. That would piss me off beyond measure.

I haven't seen th ep yet, but I must say that I am very worried about the rape story line, something about it just seems to be gearing up to "Psyche! It really wasn't rape at all" -angle, which I hate (see: VM S1) and will hate more if the show is actually written to contain people who lied about being raped.

This show has had an odd obsession with true and false rape accusations, hasn't it? And what was really odd was when the "it wasn't really rape at all" theory was proven false by Cassidy last year. I could never decide if RT planned that all along, or if it was just a retcon because so many people were critical of the "rape? PSYCH!" aspect of it.

I would wager it was because of criticism that the S1 rape story line got retconned (RT might have planned for Cassidy to turn out to be the way he turned out to be, but the part with Duncan burned me too, even if they were both roofied)

There really wasn't much more to the Dean convincing Keith than that. . .

The mini-Veronica business was very interesting. Like you, I'm not liking the idea that Claire faked her rape, but I suspect that's where all of this is going (and perhaps that all the rapes were faked, in that the girls were stripped and shaved, but not actually raped).

I haven't seen anyone else commenting on mini-Veronica, which to me was the most interesting part of the episode.

I'm starting to dread the resolution of the rape storyline, honestly. I'm hoping that the feminists are just the obvious red herring, and that there is a real rapist. It's hard for me to believe RT would have the feminists fake the rapes after all the outcry about the resolution of the season 1 rape plot, but I agree with you that that's what it looks like they're setting up.
