Veronica Mars 3.09 "Spit and Eggs"
Ok, I am clearly insane, because I had a work thing until almost midnight last night (*stabs scheduler*) and yet watched Veronica Mars before I went to bed. Today I am a zombie--I probably should have just called in sick, since I am totally useless, but I had two important meetings I couldn't miss.
Anyway, here are my thoughts on last night's episode.
I loved it. I was unspoiled, so I didn't know Logan and Veronica were breaking up in this episode, but frankly I'm so happy that they did. I love both characters, but all they've done to each other this season is cause each other pain, so I think they are better apart. And I agree with Logan: better bearable pain now than unbearable pain later on.
I really loved how Veronica refused to wallow with her friends, but totally broke down in the shower. And that heartbroken look when she saw him with another girl at the party. And I also loved that Logan still felt the need to try to protect her from the rapist, and she let him! Even though it was futile. See, Logan, she *does* need people sometimes. I also totally adored the fact that he got himself sent to prison so he could beat up Mercer.
I found the rape reveal very satisfying, because I was tending toward Moe OR Mercer, so I loved that it was them both. (Because of some sort of psychological hold Mercer established over Moe going back to the prison experiment? Is that what we're supposed to think? I confess I was very tired when I watched the ep, so I'm not sure I processed everything).
I *knew* the tea-drinking was evil, darn it!
I'm a little disappointed in Veronica's plan. Calling in the bomb threat, ok, but couldn't she have, I don't know, called Wallace and Piz for backup? What was up with pounding on their door when she knew they were at the party? And couldn't she have called her dad? I know we're supposed to see how her hubris and isolationism is affecting her judgement, but still, that was a little annoying. As was the fact that the dorm was mysteriously deserted when she was screaming, but completely full when Parker started yelling rape.
But other than those issues, I loved the whole rape reveal: Mercer's psycho self-involved reasons for the rapes, the fact that the unicorns he doesn't want to hear about came back to stab him in the leg, the fact that Veronica kept fighting even when she was drugged, and the fact that she was actually saved by the rape whistle and Parker (and the community that came out to support Parker). The transformation of Parker from victim to actor was probably my favorite part of this episode. And I'm *very* glad they didn't go with the storyline that all of the rapes were faked by Lilith House people, though I'm a little annoyed that Lilith House was set up to be a major suspect in the next big mystery.
The Dean's storyline was an interesting one. I felt kind of bad that he got blackmailed into letting the frats back, since clearly he didn't really want to, and I felt especially bad that he had to find out about his wife cheating AFTER he thought she was cleared. Poor Ed Begley Jr.--you were a worthy successor to Principal Clemmons, and I'm sorry to see you go, but frankly if someone had to die, better you than pretty much any of the other characters except Dick.
Finally, I always love to see action!Keith. He should get to kick down doors in every episode!!

I saw that in the sense that she was so frikin' scared she just completely forgot they weren't there, otherwise I don't know why she would have done it.

Yeah, I guess I should make allowances for the fact that she was completely overwhelmed, but it still seemed pretty odd to me.
