Dammit, I'm going to be at Escapade when the conclusion of the three-parter airs! Escapade, the land where everyone will be watching a rerun of SPN in preference to a new episode of Grey's! What if my VCR fails me?

Ok, I realize that the chances of them killing off the title character in this show are about the same as my chances of winning the lottery--but WOULDN'T IT BE COOL IF THEY DID? Seriously. I don't hate Meredith like I did most of last season--I've actually been enjoying her now that she and Derek are together, and we don't have to put up with their whiny angstcakes. And yet I still think it would be kind of amazing if they killed her off. It would really have profound consequences on all the characters, and shake them up in interesting ways.

What killed me the most was how Cristina instinctively knew something was wrong. And the look on her face when she found out! Damn, that was good. This show does emotional character arcs so well, even when it is blatantly unrealistic on other fronts (LIKE the fact that every doctor in the hospital is hanging out with Meredith when there's been enough trauma with the ferry accident that they should all be constantly in surgery for the next week straight).

As it turns out, I was more invested in Meredith's storyline tonight than any of the others. Izzie, brain drilling, blah blah blah; George searching for the little boy blah blah. Ok, I did like Karev's plot tonight, both his coming up with a strategy to identify people and his search for pregnant woman's husband. But mostly I was into the Meredith plot, and the way it impacted on the Cristina plot. "She's my person."

I know, they won't kill her. Still, her near-death experience is already fun. I LOVE that they brought back exploded bomb-squad guy, because I really liked him in those two brief episodes he was in, and I thought it was terrible how his death was just completely glossed over, so I'm happy we're going to get more closure there. And DENNY!! If Meredith is going to wake up, I want her to bring big soapy messages from beyond the grave for Izzie. It's fitting, in this show.

I think what I love best about the NDE is that it's really reminding me of one of my favorite novels, Connie Willis' Passages , which is all about NDE's. In fact, in the book there's a doctor who has an NDE (actually she figures out how to stimulate brain passages to make similar effects happen), and she has a best friend who's an ER nurse, and their relationship reminds me a lot of Cristina and Meredith's. And in the book, the metaphor for death is the sinking of the Titanic--just like in this ep it's the ferry boat. It makes me wonder if Shonda is a Connie Willis fan.

I'll watch Grey's Anatomy with you :) I'm not usually up for watching Supernatural at night, not because I'm scared but I'm usually not in the mood.

LOL about Meredith dying, that's what I was thinking. It would be so unique. The only reason I wouldn't is because I love her relationship with Cristina and seeing Cristina's face after she heard broke me completely. "She's my person." *cry* It is good with emotional arcs, I do love that about the show. Even though I totally agree that all the doctors abandoning their patients for Meredith was unrealistic even when I don't usually care about that kind of thing. Karev's plot was good and the Izzie plot did interest me more than last weeks. I LOVE that the bomb squad guy ie Friday Night Lights guy and DENNY is back. So awesome.

Oh, yay! We have to schedule a way to meet up. It'll be fun to watch Gray's with someone else--I never have. I don't know when exactly I'm getting to the hotel--my flight gets into Burbank around 3:30, and I've been trying to decide if I'm going to be brave (and cheap) and take the train into Ventura, or plunk down the gazillion dollars for the shuttle, but either way I'll probably be getting to the hotel around 6-ish.

I completely agree with you about Meredith's death being too hard on Cristina--and since Cristina is *my person* on the show, I guess I have to root for Meredith not to die.

Oh, gosh, I forgot that bomb squad guy was the coach on FNL. I've only watched part of an episode--I've heard it's fantastic, and I'm planning to watch it all when it comes out on DVD, I just have too many shows right now! Too much good tv this season, not enough time!

Well I'm going to be getting to the hotel around 5:30ish so hopefully we'll see each other at some point. I'd take the train, I've done it and it isn't that bad. I'm taking Amtrak to get there actually. Just to warn you though, I'll be watching The Office before that and I'm expecting me to be on an INSANE shipper high after it so I may be a bit distracted.

Cristina is my person too :) She's the one reason why I could never stop watching this show no matter how crazy it gets. And yeah, that's the reason why I'm rooting for Meredith to live. That and the fact that people would go insane if they did kill her. I'm actually behind on FNL myself but planning to catch up this weekend because I've heard its been amazing and I feel bad I've neglected it.

So, is there a shuttle from the train station, or do you have to take a cab? (I'm trying to figure out if cabfare + trainfare is going to end up being approximately the cost of the shuttle from Burbank, or not?)

I was just going to take the bus in the interest of conserving money. I don't think there's shuttle so yeah a cab would be needed. Its only about 5 minutes away though so it shouldnt be too bad.

Yes, I'd love for Meredith to die!!! And I like her! But it'd have to be Spooks for that to happen :D

Re SPN rerun...tell them Denny'll be in it. Hard core John fans might be swayed...or not.

I really wish they'd made it a two-parter. I felt it dragged in ways GA usually doesn't. And Izzie's entire plot was blah. I can't believe she'd stand in front of Meredith dying and tell George what she thought about his marriage. Did I mishear that?

I agree that three parts is too much for this arc--it felt like a lot of this episode was filler. And yeah, Izzie telling George his marriage was a mistake when he's freaking out about Meredith (and this is coming so closely on the heels of his dad's death)? NOT cool.

My three favorite scenes were:

Cristina finding out about Meredith. She just sort of shut down.

Mark sitting down nex to Derek and holding his arm in support.

Denny fucking Duchette looking all hot and bothered in the jeans, white t-shirt and leaning against the counter.

Yep, I agree with every one of these. (Who knew Mark could be an actual human being? Scenes like that remind us that they were once best friends.)
