recsfest day 28

Today's Clex rec is [livejournal.com profile] garryowen, Last, Best Hope . Aliens are invading, and earth's only hope is the Smallville mutants. One of my favorite AUs. I love the torturously slow build-up of Clark and Lex's relationship in the story--[livejournal.com profile] garryowen is so amazing at teasing the reader--but I also adore the plot. Stories in which the mutants get redeemed are pretty much my favorite type of SV AU ever, and we get lots of that in this story.

And coincidentally, [livejournal.com profile] garryowen is the author for this month's fireside chat/ ask the author at [livejournal.com profile] svroundtable, so you should go over there and tell her how much you love her stories and ask her questions.

And not only that, but [livejournal.com profile] teot, who organized the SV BigBang challenge last year, and is therefore at least indirectly responsible for inspiring this story and many other fabulous ones as well, is considering holding the challenge again, and has a poll about it for potential participants here if you haven't already filled it out.

This concludes February recsfest 2007! I hope you all enjoyed this incarnation of the Clexrecfest. Sometime in the next week or so I'll be posting an alphabetical list of all the recs from this month to [livejournal.com profile] svroundtable, in case you missed any of them or would like a handy list without having to go through the whole month's entries.

You are awesome, as usual!

::Blushes::

Thanks!

I second the awesome comment.

It's gratifying to read that you liked the pacing of the story because the rough draft was VERY different. I realized the pacing was wrong, so I rewrote pages and pages and pages, and moved things around. It was torture. My poor betas. They should have gotten paid. Anyway, I'm glad my work wasn't in vain.

:)

Your hard work and beta torturing was DEFINITELY not in vain. God, how you taunt us and taunt us with the possibility that Clark and Lex will have sex early in the story--and all those aborted sex scenes are SO DAMN HOT. Guh. I reread the first half of the story this afternoon when I was testing the link, and GUH.

[identity profile] garryowen.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
The first half of the story is, like, 80 pages! You're a fast reader. And the awesomest fangirl.

Hee. I'm glad you enjoy the torture so much. Are you reading anything besides SV these days? SPN? SGA? Something else?

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I go through phases in my reading, but it's mostly SV or older fandoms like HP or Buffy or occasionally Due South. I do occasionally read SGA, mostly by former SV writers or the occasional story that's recced everywhere. It's weird, because I read SGA but never watch it, whereas I occasionally watch SPN but almost never read it.

Are you writing in other fandoms these days?

[identity profile] garryowen.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
More like I'm trying to FIND a new fandom. I've sorta been working on an SGA, but the passion ain't really there. Sigh. *twiddles thumbs*

It's good for my RL writing, though. Getting a lot done with that. I've been rewatching the X-Files, actually. I don't think I could write Mulder/Scully, though. I'm a slash writer only. Unless it's kinky Alias fic, but that's different. *g*

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. If you're looking for a new fandom, Heroes is the one I would recommend. It's a fantastic show, and it seems like a natural transition for anyone who ever liked Smallville. It's an ensemble cast, so the real pairings have not, I think, shaken out yet (although Peter Petrelli/Nathan Petrelli is a frontrunner at the moment--I have read a few stories in that pairing, I will admit, by Lenore and someone else) though I'm kind of hoping for a non-incest slash ship in that show. But right now the show itself is perfectly satisfying to me. [livejournal.com profile] ninth_wonders, the newsletter, is a good place to find fic. And if you haven't been watching the show, I think all the episodes are downloadable on NBC's website.

I can say that the big slashy fandom other than SPN and SGA at Escapade this year seems to have been Torchwood, though I haven't seen it yet (I haven't even seen the new Dr. Who yet!!) so I can't really comment on it.

[identity profile] garryowen.livejournal.com 2007-03-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Sigh. I'm like a sullen teenager. Picky. Picky. Picky. I need fated. Mythic. Know what I mean? Mulder/Scully. Clark/Lex. Batman/Superman. Something like that. Poo.

I have not seen Dr. Who or Torchwood... Hm.

As for SPN, I have problems with it, even though I can see where people get the slash from. *g*

I'm sure something will turn up.

Thanks for all of the great recs throughout the month. :)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed them!

[identity profile] serenography.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you did this. I haven't been reading much fic lately, but when the mood hits me, it's great to know I have this reference to use.

I'm glad to be a resource person!

I enjoyed the recs, too! Thanks for taking the time :)

I often points to your recs in your memories, so it would be great if you have them in one post them at the roundtable as well!
and thanks for the lovely recs, it was so fun to reread them!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome, Ender. Though you know my memories aren't as up-to-date as my tags (since it's a pain in the butt to edit memories); all of my sv recs now should be tagged "sv recs." In other words, http://norwich36.livejournal.com/tag/sv+recs

argg, darn,!

[personal profile] ender24 2007-03-02 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
you already told me, but I always forget, because I am always looking for a certain character (lionel) or theme set, and I find them quicker in the memories!

MUST remember!

sorry! damn!

Re: argg, darn,!

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it might be faster then to look at my tag list as a whole (which is on the side of my page, but also norwich36.livejournal.com/tag) since I have separate tags for Lionel recs, Luthorcest recs, and clex recs.
ender24: (Default)

thanks!

I have now made a screenshot of your tags list!
that should make it now much quicker to find stuff :)
