In memoriam

My f-list is full of amazing tributes to the many ways [livejournal.com profile] thamiris touched our lives. I admired her so much for so many years --back when I was lurking before I even had an LJ myself I used her friendslist as my primary reading list--and I always thought she was the kind of fan I wanted to be: an amazing writer and essayist, a warm and welcoming person and someone with an amazing lust for life and for beautiful boys.

I was so in awe of her writing talents that I almost never sent her feedback (which was dumb, because I could see from her journal how kind she was to newbies), and while I did finally get around to recommending some of her her amazing stories, not just in SV but her Ares slash and her unbelievably beautiful bible slash, and her terrific SV meta , I really regret I let my shyness get in the way of interacting with her more, or letting her know exactly how much her writing had meant to me.

I was just thinking of that when I saw this post about thamiris by [livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy, which makes this suggestion:

In memory of those we've lost, find a fan who isn't your bestest friend, who isn't in your closest clique, who you may never have seen in person, but who still means something important to you. Tell that person today, or this week (and don't stop telling them) what they bring to your life, and to the life of this community.

And since I don't have the skills to write hot Clex porn, this seems like another good way to honor her memory.

Hon, you are that person.

*Hugs you tight*

Thank you, sweetie. That's pretty much the nicest thing you could possibly say to me.

*tears up*

She's right, you know. You are.

You people have to stop saying things like that--you're making me cry!!

Wow I am just so stunned. I thought she was amazing too and I used to just lurk at her journal but even when I did comment she was always so nice. This is just so sad :( That's a great idea though.

It's really heartbreaking. It makes me very angry at the universe when beautiful voices like hers are silenced. It's just not fair, you know?

Beautiful idea! Thank you for reposting it here, because I don't have [livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy friended and wouldn't have seen it otherwise. I'm going to take up that challenge. Definitely.

Yes, I think it's a lovely idea. And Miriam's post says great things about the connections we feel with people online.
