brief update and rec

*Crawls out of cave, peers blinkingly into the sun*

Hey everybody! I did finally get my power back after six days, but then work slammed into me hard, so I've mostly been skimming my flist and the next two weeks I probably won't be around too much, if at all. But as I was skimming today I saw that [livejournal.com profile] rivkat had posted a new story, and I got sucked in staying up way past my bedtime reading the most perfect crossover in the history of EVER, Under Darkening Skies, which is a Buffy/Supernatural crossover, in which the the government traps Sam and Dean into going undercover to take out a dangerous witch and a demon-influenced girl. It's hilarious and heartbreaking and one of the best meshing of universes I've ever seen, and I loved all the character voices so much in this story I never wanted it to end.

I... might have to read my first fanfic in over a decade from this rec.

It's got really amazing Buffy and Willow voices (and to be honest, I don't generally read a lot of fic for either of those characters, as they're not my favorites in the Buffyverse, but this story made me remember when they *were* my favorites), and the parallels she makes between Dean and Sam's lives and dilemmas and those in the Buffyverse work amazingly well.

Er, I just remembered I stopped watching Supernatural near the end of the second season (the Hollywood ep was the last I saw). Will it be hard to follow? ie, events mentioned from later eps. I simply lost interest in the show.

And reading comments below, I'd actually like to see a Faith/Dean pairing.

Did I just ship someone? Oy.

Faith/Dean

I hope you got my other comment via email (deleted since it was spoilery for the s2 ending of SPN--what you need to know for the story).

Some great Dean/Faith stories:

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool, Fifteen Percent Concentrated Power of Will (http://musesfool.livejournal.com/1283226.html)

[livejournal.com profile] mona1347, Wildcat (http://mona1347.livejournal.com/183528.html)

[livejournal.com profile] femmenerdhas a whole bunch of Faith/Dean stories here (http://femmenerd.livejournal.com/tag/faith/dean)

And this story is gen, but it's a fabulous "Faith as a Winchester AU": Dear Frankie (http://offbalance.livejournal.com/736815.html).

Yes, I got the email notification, and the spoilery. Thanks! I was wondering what I missed... and yet I'm still not inspired to watch. Rather like getting heavy spoiled on A Song of Ice and Fire (on request) and still finding myself uninterested in reading.

I will check these out, keep them in my email box for reference.

Thanks again!

(btw, if I do wind up getting into fanfic, I'm totally blaming you... and all the others on my flist who rec)

Yay for power!

I hear that fic is Faith/Dean, is that true?

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-01-19 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, actually Faith isn't in the story at all. I would say if anything the story is gen, but there is a little Dean/Willow at the end, and that is not a pairing I would ever have thought worked, but it actually works amazingly well in the context of the story. The focus of the story isn't romantic, though--it's on trying to get Dean out of his deal with the demon, and on whether Sam and Dean are going to get out of being blackmailed by the government.

Aww, I'd totally read well-written Dean/Willow, *is suddenly all psyched at the idea*!! I'm just not that into Faith as a character, and wouldn't want to read her with Dean. But, awww, Dean/Willow!! (It's probably not even geeky!Willow/your-icon!Dean, but in my head right now it is, hee.)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2008-01-19 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it is kind of geeky!Willow/Dean. I absolutely love the Willow in this story; it reminded me of how much I used to absolutely adore her. (I am not someone who thinks s6 of Buffy ruined the show, but it did tarnish my Willow love a bit). And thinking about it, Dean/Willow works on another level for me, because there are so many similarities between Willow and Sam, and I can definitely see Dean being drawn to that.

But like I said, the main focus of the story isn't romance at all, just so you're not going into it with false expectations.

[identity profile] skuf.livejournal.com 2008-01-19 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, yay.

I'll keep my romantic expectations down - have started reading and am very intrigued so far :o) !!

Damn, couldn't finish it: Dean leading the dumb slayettes, who obviously can't lead their dumb selves, was a disappointment and a turn-off :o(
