More bigbang recs

Here are some more recs from this year's SPN/J2 bigbang, this time a mixed bag: J2 and SPN (including gen, het, and Wincest)

JARED/JENSEN RECS

[livejournal.com profile] enoughoflove, Relax, It's Just Sex. I was bound to adore this fic, since it combines two of my favorite AU scenarios: Jared and Jensen as college students, and Jared and Jensen as porn stars. But it's also beautifully written and lots of fun. Jared's BFF Chad has been doing porn for a year to put himself through school, and he persuades Jared to give it a shot. And it turns out that Jensen, this beautiful man Jared met at a party, is also one of the stars. The sex in this is not only incredibly hot but intensely emotional as well, especially once Jared and Jensen start getting together offscreen. (Jared/Jensen, slight Jared/Chad, also Jared/Sandy).

[livejournal.com profile] ivy03, Old Hideaway. Another fun J2 AU set at a boy's camp in Vermont, with Jared falling for Jensen. Very sweet, with some great OCs (especially Lizard), and a realistic look at life at camp. (Jared/Jensen)

SPN: GEN RECS
(If the primary focus of the story wasn't romance, I put it in this category)

[livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur, Weathercock snowfall (starlight cockcrow). If you only read one story from BigBang, this is the one to read. Seriously, this story is haunting--I could not get it out of my head for weeks afterward. Dean only has a few weeks to live, and Sam has suddenly stopped talking. And this is not the first time that Sam has done this. Is it a curse? Sheer stubbornness? Something else? Angsty and brilliantly characterized and the ending took my breath away. (Gen)

[livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka, Revelations. An AU where Dean is a rookie ATF agent assigned to work on a serial arson case with Victor Heriksen. Henriksen slowly begins to suspect that Dean knows a lot more about the case than he's letting on--and of course that turns out to be true. Awesome, awesome Henriksen characterization, and I also really loved the AU backstory for Sam and Dean; being raised by Pastor Jim introduces some subtle changes that are really interesting to their life stories. My only complaint about this story is that it ENDED; it clearly calls for many, many sequels where Victor, Dean and Sam hunt monsters together.(Gen)

[livejournal.com profile] ddayspring, Infrangible Road. An AU in which John decides to put raising the boys first and hunting demons second. Dean grows up to become a munitions expert in the military, and Sam becomes a lawyer. Extremely well-written, and featuring smart!Dean and John and Sam getting along (despite some rocky adolescent issues), which are two of my bulletproof kinks. I do have some qualms about the fact that there are no real consequences to John sidelining his hunting, and I think there needed to be an explanation given as to why the timetable of canon events that stayed in the story got changed--but despite those issues, I found the story enjoyable overall. (Sam/Jess, though overall mainly gen rather than romance)

SPN: MIXED ROMANCE RECS
(This category includes all non-Wincest-centered romance: het, slash, het/slash combinations, including some threesomes with Wincest. If the primary focus was not Wincest, I put it here)

[livejournal.com profile] gwendolyngrace, Fifty Percent. Dean and Sam discover a letter in their father's storage locker, written to a librarian they knew for five months back in 1989. The story shifts back and forth from a modern casefile to Beverly Kirkland's 1989 encounter with the Winchester's. Beverly is one of the best OCs I've seen in this fandom, and her outsider perspective on the Winchesters--particularly on John--is really fascinating. They have a sexual relationship, but it is far from formula; in fact, it's one of the most realistic pairings I've ever seen written for John (including the ending, which given this is John Winchester is not particularly happy). Highly recommended for anyone who loves John-centric stories, or weechesters in general. (John/Beverly)

[livejournal.com profile] clex_monkie89, Postcards from Easy Street is pretty much my favorite Jess story, ever.(And I have high standards--you can probably tell from my default icon that I am a complete sucker for Jess-centric stories). She's fun and completely uninhibited, and really loves it when Sam gets fucked--whether it's her pegging Sam or Sam with other guys. Suddenly she starts getting letters and phonecalls from "Nate," who knows quite a bit about Sam's past life--though she's not sure if Nate is really Sam's ex or Sam's brother (because of course he is both). Meanwhile, Sam is just trying to survive college, work three jobs, and deal with the occasional Stanford incubus infestation. Absolutely fun, and the ending made me all kinds of happy. (Sam/Jess, implied Sam/Dean, Sam/omcs).

[livejournal.com profile] elohvee, Imagine the Houses . An AU in which blood literally starts raining from the sky--along with other apocalyptic events--when Sam is at Stanford. While he is huddling in the library basement, he meets Jess, and when the sky isn't falling anymore, they go on a cross-country trip to try and find Dean. One of the most original apocalypses I have ever read, and a really interesting Sam/Jess relationship story, complicated by Sam's past relationship with Dean. (Sam/Jess, Sam/Dean, Sam/Jess/Dean).

[livejournal.com profile] innie_darling,The Taming of The You-Know-Who is a sweet takeoff off "10 Things I Hate About You" (which of course borrowed liberally from the Taming of the Shrew). The Winchester family has settled down in one town for Sam's freshman year of high school, and he finally has a real friend--Pete--but he's also got a massive crush on a girl. The only problem is, John won't let him date anyone steadily unless Dean does. Really sweet Sam characterization, with a very believable twist at the end. (Non-Wincest; to say more about the pairing would spoil the story)

SPN: WINCEST RECS
(If the primary focus was Wincest, even if there were also other pairings, I put it here).

[livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion, The Fetters of Fenrir. This one is massively long (200K words) and it has about three prequels (though I didn't actually read them--the author provides a summary), but it's definitely worth it if you have any kind of slave kink or animal transformation kink at all. Basically, Dean is possessed by an animal spirit (the prequels and/or the forward spell out this premise in a lot more detail), which gives him preternatural fighting and healing powers, but he fears the animal spirit will overwhelm his humanity and he will become an unbeatable monster. He gets kidnapped by someone who makes him fight nightly in a Vegas arena, and also whores him out to customers. Sam, aided by Bela Talbot, goes to his rescue, but the rescue is complicated by the fact that Dean doesn't really want to leave, because his owner is feeding him a drug that allows him to control the beast. Long, satisfying, and very well-paced, despite its length; it sucks you in and is really hard to stop reading, so I don't recommend you start on a day you don't have at least 5 hours free! Also, dark themes, lots of violence, noncon (though not graphic), etc. (Dean/omcs, Dean/Sam)

[livejournal.com profile] mickeym, We Know Each Other As We Always Were. Gorgeous AU set in the 1940s-1950s, mainly around WWII, with teen Sam falling for Dean. I was very reluctant to read the story at first because of the major character death warning, but even though it broke my heart it turned out to be completely worth it. (I'm happy to give more spoilers privately in email if you're reluctant to read a death story). (Sam/Dean, Sam/Jess)

[livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds, Hangman is Coming Down from the Gallows. It's Dean's last day, and he's spending it with Sam, but a funny thing happens as he's bracing himself for the hellhounds to come: he falls asleep, and when he wakes up the next morning, the day is repeating. Is this the solution Sam found? A temporary stopgap? Or something else? Although Dean wants to know, he doesn't want to give up the opportunity to spend another day with Sam--even when weird things start happening. A really fascinating premise, and the slow change in tone is masterfully done. (Sam/Dean)

[livejournal.com profile] thenyxie, Ouroboros. Dean's dad is dead, and his baby brother died 16 years ago; right now he's working with Gordon Walker to hunt a man Walker knows to be the antichrist: one Sam Harrison. But when it comes right down to it, he can't kill Sam. Now he and Sam are on the run from a bunch of crazy hunters, and the antichrist is indeed rising; will he be able to stop it? The ending of this story is is practically operatic-- an immensely satisfying twist on canon, followed by a spiralling series of events that may remake (or unmake) the world forever. What I loved most about this story, though was the romance between Sam and Dean, the slow build of tension throughout the whole story and the epic sacrifices they made for each other. (Sam/Dean)
