Many random things

I don't usually go to (non-work-related) social events during the week, but an old colleague was in town last night and talked me into going to see "Tropic Thunder," and I have to say I laughed my ass off. Really my favorite part of the whole thing was the fake trailers, especially the medieval gay monks with Toby McGuire and RDJ. I just about sprained something laughing at that. And they did such an excellent job of skewering every single Vietnam movie cliche. I went to the film for RDJ, who was completely excellent, but I have to agree with the people who said Tom Cruise was the best performance of the entire film. He could possibly even make me like him again if he continued to take roles that are so against type.

Now I have two completely unrelated requests for my all-knowing flist:

1. Anyone out there who is widely read in CW RPS, can you point me to some good stories with Jensen/Christian Kane or Jared/Jensen/Christian Kane? I have a friend looking for recs, and I don't usually read stories with Chris as a central character, so I'm at a loss.

2. Should I update to the latest version of Firefox, now that it keeps prompting me to every 12 hours or so? I know it doesn't work with LJ Hook, but that's not a big concern for me, but I've heard there's something wonky about the new address bar, or something? What are the pros and cons of switching?

The biggest plus about the new firefox, imo, is that it asks if you want to save your tabs to open back up as they are the next time you turn your computer on. I LOVE that. I was bummed about the LJ hook at first, but I got over that fairly quickly. :)

Oh, that would be good. (Though I usually achieved the same effect by shutting off my computer without shutting down Firefox).

You haven't had any problems with the new address bar?

No problems at all. The only thing I've seen different is that when you start typing in the address, it gives you a drop-down list of the places you normally go (like if I start to type in "am" it will guess "amazon"). I don't use it much, but it could come in handy.

I'm confused, because my Firefox already does that. That's a new feature?

Huh. It was for me. I'm confused now, too. ;P

Okay, I thought some more on it, and I know what you're talking about now. But it is different and better with then new Firefox. Maybe it's just shinier? I don't know, but I do love the new version a lot, all the way around. :)

Hmm. I just updated and so far I'm kind of hating it. It ate my delicious bookmarklets, and I can't figure out how to get them back, because the things delicious is telling me to do don't seem to correspond to the new toolbar. I don't suppose you've figured this out?

Never mind--I figured it out. It just took me a while because I couldn't quite figure out where things were on the new Firefox.

Old Firefox does that too. Tools -> Options -> Main and When Firefox starts select "show my windows and tabs from last time." Fucking best thing ever, because I can close Firefox or restart the computer as many times as I want and all the stuff I'm reading is all still there.

Yep. And right now I am thinking old Firefox is superior, and wishing I had not updated. :(
