Many random things

I don't usually go to (non-work-related) social events during the week, but an old colleague was in town last night and talked me into going to see "Tropic Thunder," and I have to say I laughed my ass off. Really my favorite part of the whole thing was the fake trailers, especially the medieval gay monks with Toby McGuire and RDJ. I just about sprained something laughing at that. And they did such an excellent job of skewering every single Vietnam movie cliche. I went to the film for RDJ, who was completely excellent, but I have to agree with the people who said Tom Cruise was the best performance of the entire film. He could possibly even make me like him again if he continued to take roles that are so against type.

Now I have two completely unrelated requests for my all-knowing flist:

1. Anyone out there who is widely read in CW RPS, can you point me to some good stories with Jensen/Christian Kane or Jared/Jensen/Christian Kane? I have a friend looking for recs, and I don't usually read stories with Chris as a central character, so I'm at a loss.

2. Should I update to the latest version of Firefox, now that it keeps prompting me to every 12 hours or so? I know it doesn't work with LJ Hook, but that's not a big concern for me, but I've heard there's something wonky about the new address bar, or something? What are the pros and cons of switching?

Why is it awesome, if I may ask?

Because it guesses at which site you're trying to open. So if I want to open e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Atlantis_(season_5), in Firefox 2 I start typing en.wikipedia.org etc., and the more of the entire url I type, the more likely the top result is the page I'm looking for (as opposed to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirth's_law or even http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Atlantis_(season_3) ).

But in Firefox 3, I type wiki 5, and Firefox TOTALLY KNOWS I want http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_Atlantis_(season_5) ! And it gets cleverer the more you use it! It is Awesome, *nods*.

As I said to Kristi above, my Firefox already does that. I am confused. I definitely don't have version 3 downloaded.

So if you're looking for e.g. an LJ comm, you can type the comm name in the address bar, and it'll give you results for it? I'm pretty sure my Firefox 2 didn't do that - I had to type community.livejournal etc.

As soon as I start typing, I get a drop-down box with all the possible results starting with what I've typed. Is that what you get? Or is it more like Netscape (ah, remember back in the olden days of Netscape?) where it actually completes the address for you as you type?

Actually, what will happen is this: I'll start typing "Post" for "post an entry" and it will fill in http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml. Stuff like that. Or I can start by typing in the name of the community, instead of the URL, like just starting with "Who" for [livejournal.com profile] who_daily. You do, of course, have to have already been there before for it to work, but it's a very nice feature.

Except that I was very efficient at using the old system, and the new one is kind of driving me crazy. I guess I'll get used to it.

It did me, too, as I said, because I was so used to the old way - but trust me, when you get the hang of it, you'll realize how much more Awesome it is :o) !

And I'm glad someone was able to explain it; I was trying to be clear, but obviously not :oD
