SPN: "Sex and Violence"

Just a few quick reactions:

1. Sam should get to have sex in every episode. SERIOUSLY. Damn.
(Or, you know, Sam and Dean could alternate. That would be acceptable)
1a. And he should get to do it with smart hot women who *aren't* monsters more often.
1b. Especially when they seduce him by whispering sexily into his ear, which is a lot hotter than I would have expected.
1c. Barring that, more shirtlessness would also be acceptable

2. Watching Sam and Dean slam into each other so hard they knock down doors is almost as good as watching them have sex.
2a. Especially when they finally start being honest with each other
2b. And it may be wrong, but I laughed and laughed at Sam mocking Dean's emo over torturing people in hell. Because as much as I feel for him, if *I* think it's getting old, imagine how Sam feels.
2c. Also, Sam is right about being a better hunter, and you just *know* that's going to eat at Dean more than Dean's accusations about lying are going to hurt Sam. Because Sam thinks--justifiably--he deserves to not have Dean question all his decisions.

3. Bobby =awesome X eleventy billion
3a. Especially his collection of phones just for the Winchester brothers
3b. Though riding to the rescue isn't bad either
3c. And I approve of him making them drink soda when they're driving!

4. The obligatory tag by the side of the road turns out to be more fun when they're repressing and denying!

5. So, I guess you can't say cockblocking on network TV? But c'mon Dean, that doctor was totally out of your league.
5a. But I was amused how clearly Dean has been looking for a legit case with strippers HIS WHOLE LIFE.
5b. Oh Dean, you are so 13 at heart.

6. So, how quickly did everybody guess that the FBI agent was the real siren?
6a. When he turned out to have a love of classic cars?
6b. When he was trading lyrics with Dean? (This is when I guessed)
6c. When it turned out the vials of blood were missing?
6d. When it turned out Dean's drunk-and-in-a-strip-club hair was the most attractive hairstyle he's ever had on the show?

7. Did Genevieve Cortese get a credit just for saying that one line?
7a. And did anyone else, seeing the "previouslies," think that Dean was going to end up killing Ruby in this episode?
7b. Or even worse, that Sam would end up killing her?
7c. Or perhaps Dean would get talked into killing Castiel? (Oops, I think I might be reading too much Dean/Castiel fic)

I agree so hard with all of 1-5. But most especially:

And it may be wrong, but I laughed and laughed at Sam mocking Dean's emo over torturing people in hell. Because as much as I feel for him, if *I* think it's getting old, imagine how Sam feels.

I felt pretty bad about it, too, but that doesn't make me any less glad they went there.

Hee! Yeah, it was pretty mean, but we've all been thinking it for a while.

1. YESYESYESYESYES!!!!
Re 1b: Completely!!!! I mean her dialogue did not suck at ALL.
re 1c: Shirtlessness is so easy to write in and why waste all that extra working out Jared is doing? I have instantly in my head like 10 different completely justified reasons why Sam should have to take his shirt off.

2. OMG YES!!!! I think my eyes popped out of my head and husband was giving me a bemused look. Cathartic heart wrenching raw and excruciatingly truthful speeches FOR THE MFWIN!!!! I totally cracked up as well at Sam's mockery of Dean - Jensen's probably thinking "Thank god someone gets to say that out loud"

4. Oh BOYS! You are so far away on the opposite side to "Yeah, we're good" it's laughable. Massive denial and repression for the RIFT WAR setup is just sooo sweet.

6. Umm none of the above - try *cough* in the car outside the club. *cough* But in my defence my entire BRAIN was wired intently into Sam's story arc here - HOT AGAINST THE WALL OF THE OFFICE SEX WITH HOT CHICK!!!!! Come on! Sam was just so completely UNFAIRLY hot and smoking and ...well. I clearly had no neurons to spare.

7a,b and c. No...no and ..no. I predicted massive Sam and Dean fight the second I heard the story from the meat bashing hammer guy. I got my fight. And complete body throwing and restraining and nasty soul baring dialogue as a bonus.

This could quite well be my favourite episode of season 4 so far. But I'll wait and see if this haze of love for Sex and Violence dissipates a little after a few days. If only it were a HBO show...can you imagine? *sighs*

Completely!!!! I mean her dialogue did not suck at ALL.

I KNOW! And she was smart and funny and not a monster. (I saw someone else in a review pointing out her similarities to Dean: both save people, both are snarky, both drink on the job--so obviously Sam's ideal woman is the female version of Dean, whereas Dean's ideal woman is just Sam. :D

re 1c: Shirtlessness is so easy to write in and why waste all that extra working out Jared is doing? I have instantly in my head like 10 different completely justified reasons why Sam should have to take his shirt off.

Seriously. I mean, they spend all their time in motel rooms--surely there should be more showers and things!

If only it were a HBO show...can you imagine? *sighs*
Oh, that's a happy thought.

I alternated between being totally sad at the tragedy of everyone, and thinking it was totally hot, from Cara who I liked a lot to the whole fight between Sam and Dean with some guy getting them all textually gayed up.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's funny, because some weeks the tragic elements hit me harder than others. I've seen a few reviews talking about how sad the continued conflict between the brothers is making them, and I agree--part of the reason I never reviewed "Cris Angel is a Douchebag" is because I was so damn heartbroken at the end--the foreshadowing in that just about killed me.

I don't know, maybe I've been imbibing the Winchester worldview too long, but for some reason I can't think things are so bad when they have knock-down, drag-out fights. Because even though they were saying ugly things together and trying to kill each other, physical violence seems like the way Winchesters solve their emotional problems. So in a weird way that left me optimistic, despite what they actually said. (Like I said--too much time in the Winchester headspace!!!!)

But the gayness of this episode was EPIC. Dean's ideal person is basically Sam? The whole framing of their relationship as a marriage on the rocks? Oh, yeah. Gay gay gay gay gay.

Things I thought while watching (or most of them, anyway; I remembered only nearish the end that I was watching on the computer and I could pull up a text file and type them up):

How much must keepa love that they're all Disney princesses?

In an office with glass windows? Seriously?

Helloooo, Wincest.

Ahahahaha! Bobby giving them soda.

And as for 6, I was spoiled by IMDb! I just wanted to know who was playing Cara and if she'd been in anything else, and I thought it was far enough along in the episode that I wouldn't be spoiled, but then I was wrong.

And as for whether or not I actually liked it, I don't know. Maybe I'll know tomorrow.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely the wincesty-est epsode ever.

It sucks that you got spoiled! That occasionally happens to me, because I'll be typing my Smallville review and watching Gray's and when I'm waiting for it to finish so I can watch the taped SPN I sometimes collect reviews for eat_crow, and people aren't always good about cut-tagging.

Oh, God, just the fact that Dean's ideal was a more friendly/awed Sammy was incredibly Wincesty. Also, not what I was expecting - when Dean said something like, "How do we find her?" my first thought was, "Look for the woman who looks like your mother," because that's who I was expecting either one of them to come up with as an ideal.
