Dreamwidth?

So I've been playing around with the idea of buying a seed account at Dreamwidth when they go up for sale on April 30, since apparently this is the only time ever they will be selling permanent accounts, but the fact that only a few people on my f-list seem to even know about the project makes me question whether it's worth shelling out that much money. So: a poll.

[Poll #1375329]

For those of you who checked the last radio button, here are some good resources to read about the project:
Links to a bunch of posts explaining why this project was undertaken--see especially this one , in which [livejournal.com profile] synechdochic explains why she undertook this project; Dreamwidth's wiki page; a post explaining how Dreamwidth is different than other fan-run journaling sites ; a post by [livejournal.com profile] cathexys about why dreamwidth is right for her ; and a post by [livejournal.com profile] zvi_likes_tv about getting started on Dreamwidth , for those lucky enough to have closed beta accounts.

Hi -- hope you don't mind me randomly popping in here. I'm one of the co-owners of Dreamwidth ([livejournal.com profile] synecdochic's other half), and we tend to scour the Internets for mention of Dreamwidth to answer questions and generally (try to) be useful.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that while we expect fannish people to be among our earliest adopters, the site is not for fandom. It's for everybody. Personally, I have never read or written fic in my life and can't really tell you what the fascination is with putting Daniel and Jack in the same room together, and I am half-owner! :)

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Otherwise, it was nice meeting you, and I'll be on my way now!

Thank you!

If/when someone offers me an invite code I'll totally sign my name up - I certainly don't want to be left behind. But I'm personally really happy here. I like LJ a lot and I don't have any issues with the organisation (like a lot of other fans do), but I'm here as part of fandom so ultimately I'll do whatever everyone else does, no matter how much I'd rather resist change. :P
