Muppets

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Image taken from [livejournal.com profile] lunaris1013 here .

In non-political news, I was surfing around friendsfriends, and I saw someone with a Kermit/Miss Piggy icon. And for some reason that really started me pondering this pairing. I actually was thinking about them the whole time I was in line to vote. Are they really right for each other? I love both Kermit and Miss Piggy separately, but in some ways I think they're better apart than together. Maybe it's just that they embody a relationship dynamic I don't like too much: highly-strung diva with the long-suffering partner. I think they could both do better, though. Mayber Kermit with Scooter and Piggy with Fozzie Bear. Or do opposites always attract in the world of muppets?

What do you think? Is Kermit/Miss Piggy your muppet OTP, or do you have another?

Edited to add some pictures of muppets mentioned in the comments, behind the cut

Why yes, I am avoiding work this afternoon, why do you ask?

I actually think Miss Piggy should be paired up with Sam the Eagle. He's stoic enough to take her.

My only OTP in muppetry is Gonzo/Chickens. ;-)

Amen: it's Gonzo/Camilla all the way.

I'm also inclined to root for Kermit/Fozzie; didn't you see The Great Muppet Caper, where Fozzie was so heartbroken at the idea of Kermit going on a date without him? And not to be a speciesist or anything, but Piggy might have a future with Link Hogthrob (captain of the Swinetrek, natch), since they're similarly porcine and vain.

Though now I'm thinking of other potential muppet pairings. If we can include Sesame Street, there's Ernie/Bert (canonically) and Big Bird/Snuffy, of course, but I'm also contemplating more obscure characters: the Count/Forgetful Jones would work for me (they'd balance each other out nicely). And Herry/Telly. And Grover/Oscar. And I cannot believe that I'm having this conversation.

Yay! I have inspired muppet slash! My work is done.

I'm not sure I actually saw the Great Muppet Caper, actually. I may have to rent it. But Kermit/Fozzie sounds like a good pairing to me. And of course Bert/Ernie are definitely canon, but I didn't even think of Big Bird/Snuffy--that's perfect!

I'm going to have to go look up some of the Sesame Street ones, though--I don't think I can identify who Herry and Telly are.

Great Muppet Caper is definitely worth watching. Fozzie and Kermit play identical twins. (Which, now that I think of it, could cause some problems wiht the slash pairing, but then again, most of the time we just see them as friends, so what the hell.) And Diana Rigg (from The Avengers) is one of the stars. And John Cleese has an awesome, awesome cameo.

Diana Rigg AND John Cleese? How did I miss this when it came out?

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, ok, I did know who Herry and Telly were, I just didn't know their names.

[identity profile] huzzlewhat.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be tempted to say Dr. Bunsen Honeydew/Beaker, but I'm afraid the good doctor is just too oblivious to poor Beaker's needs...

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, definitely Gonzo/Chickens! Canonical polyamory! Who knew that the muppets were so subversive?

[identity profile] huzzlewhat.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a bit in Muppet Treasure Island with Gonzo being tied to the rack and he tells them not to stop. And then there's the bit with him putting a starfish down his pants just to see how it would feel.

Not for kids, this stuff. ;-)

i think piggy is wrong for kermit. she wants him so badly, but he's clearly very ambivalent about her. scooter would be a good match for kermit, come to think of it! you're a genius. piggy and link hogthrob would be quite the cute couple. :)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think Scooter and Kermit would be cute together. But I agree, Piggy and Link Hogthrob would be a good match.

I love that you have a Kermit icon! A very cute Kermit icon, too.

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i call him "Dapper Kermit." :D

[identity profile] polarenigma.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all about the Beaker/Bunsen pairing. In fact I think I might buy a Dr. Bunsen stuffed animal to keep my Beaker one company. At the moment he has a friend in Gonzo.

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-11-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Beaker must love Bunsen to put up with all he does. On the other hand, that pairing reminds me of Waylon Smithers/Mr. Burns on the Simpsons, since like Smithers, Beaker seems to put up with a *heck* of a lot from his employer--maybe the love is all on one side? :D

[identity profile] polarenigma.livejournal.com 2006-11-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it is. Or it could be co-dependence or blind love. *sigh*

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Bert and Ernie! Bert and Ernie! I was obsessed. ;-)

[identity profile] norwich36.livejournal.com 2006-11-08 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
They're so cute together, too.
