Hiatus is too long, OR, I may need an intervention
Dear my wonderful f-list,
Hiatus is TOO LONG and not enough Smallville porn is being written. For this reason I have strayed to reading HP porn and DCU porn and Buffy porn and occasionally even SGA porn, which is within the realm of acceptability, but something bad is starting to happen.
I am having dreams about Dean Winchester. Dreams as in the hot sex kind of dreams. Which lead to daydreams. And as the Catholic Church will tell you, you're not responsible for your dream dreams, but daydreams involve willful intent, and you are therefore morally culpable for any fantasies involving hot Winchester boys.
But it is even worse than that. I've started seeking out the fic. Oh, sure, it started innocently enough, with long SPN gen stories, and even J2 RPS, which hadn't exactly been my cup of tea, but I'd certainly read enough CW:RPS with Mike and Tommy, so it didn't really feel like I was straying, but then tonight I found myself actually (a) seeking out Wincest (ok, it was by musesfool, and she's one of about 5 authors I'll read anything by, and plus it had girl!Sam, and I'm very into genderfuck at the moment, but still) and (b) contemplating renting SPN DVDs to see if maybe I can stand the show after all, considering the hotass factor.
You see? It can only go downhill from here. I need an intervention. OR NON-SPN PORN RECS, PLEASE! If I get sucked into SPN fandom, certain people will never speak to me again (eyes
mskatej), and I will lose all my hard-earned "I am not going to fall for a show I don't like just for the sake of pretty boys" cred.*** So please, for the love of me, send me porny recs in any of the following fandoms: Smallville, DCU, the 4400, Buffy, Angel, Harry Potter, Kyle XY, Burn Notice, Psych, or anything else you can think of that is not SPN.
Yours in a certain amount of terror,
Nora
*** Do not mention Smallville in trying to attack my ""I'm not going to fall for a show just for the sake of the pretty" cred, or I will be forced to respond with tl;dr comments about how I find DEEP and MEANINGFUL themes hidden in the visual symbolism of the show that go beyond the gorgeous cast to evoke archetypes that can be found in LOTS OF GREAT LITERATURE. Like Star Wars and other Joseph Campell-inspired ripoffs of Jung who was probably just misreading Frazer anyway. Because I always go for the DEEP and MEANINGFUL overAMAZING HOTNESS shallow and pretty. This is well documented by the icon I have chosen for this post.
On the other hand, if you want to tempt me with hot SPN or J2 recs, feel free--just don't tell Kate!!!
[Hocus pocus] Kate, please to be ignoring that comment above. [/hocus pocus]

I think you should read more DC fics so you can then rec the good ones to me. I think that is the best plan for you from here on in.
PS. Jensen is lame.

Wait. What?

Not arguing, just observing that a big chunk of SPN fandom is former or current SV fans. :P
I don't know where else to go for DC recs, though. I mean, I've exhausted all the searches I can think of on del.icio.us and google. :-(

I've actually tried to watch SPN on multiple occasions, and despite the very high hotness factor, for some reason it has never clicked for me. But maybe if I read more fic that will change.

A good look at the critique if you're interested is George Stocking's Victorian Anthropology .

we need a meta oh his symbolism 'cause he's totally reminding me of the arch-angel michael [but, suddenly fallen to earth]

Dude, try again: you may come for the hotness factor, but I swear you'll stay for the emo-porn. THESE GUYS WOULD LITERALLY DIE FOR EACH OTHER!

(A) The cinematography is so grim. It's literally such a dark show, color- palette-wise, and that always depresses me and makes me not want to watch.
(B) I have real problems with shows where the protagonists are constantly being put in unfamiliar situations. It makes me tense for reasons I can't explain. For this reason I don't do very well with shows that involve a lot of travelling to new places (SGA, many varieties of ST, and similarly-themed shows.) I know it's weird, and probably related to my deep social anxiety issues, but there it is.
(C) I don't actually like horror. I have been known to watch it on occasion (Buffy, X-files), but usually only when there are vampires or I love the writing so much it overcomes my distaste for the genre. Unfortunately, with SPN, even though I've heard many good things about the writing, this hasn't happened--and I have watched at least 7 or 8 episodes, which is more than I give most shows I can't get into. So I honestly think the hotness factor will only take me so far.
However, sometimes good fan writing can make me fall in love with things I thought I hated, so I suppose it is still possible I will be converted.

I just want to read some Michael/Fiona, really. Or Michael/Fiona/Bruce Campbell's character. (I keep expecting Fiona and Bruce Campbell to have angry hate!sex while they're stuck in a car arguing, but I'll settle for that marvellous fighting/fucking scene we got with Michael and Fi).

(B) But it's ok, because it's all about SamandDean. And the Impala. Those are the stables, and they are good stables. It's the epic love story of Sam and Dean - ONE OF THE WRITERS SAYS SO HERSELF, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT :o) ??
(C) I like horror to a certain degree, though I'm more into psychological horror than gore. It got way better in S2, but some episodes in S1 freaked me the fuck out! Like "Scarecrow", gah!! (But it's an awesome episode.)
Sajksakljdskl: Amber Benson guest-stars in a vampire episode in S2!! I highly recommend it, one of my favorite. (FYI, SPN vampires are not like Buffy vampires.)
That all aside, sometimes fanon just works better for you than canon - cf. in my case: DS and SV :o)

And that's why we're a model of sanity because that's where all our crazu went yo! Duh!

It may just be a show where I love the fanon, not the canon.
(Though I'm surprised you don't like DS canon--I would rank DS right after Buffy in terms of my "shows where I love canon like burning.")

I watch for the family soap opera and the relationship between the brothers — which just happen to take place against this extraordinary backdrop of demons and demon hunting. That’s all I watch it for. All in all, the brothers are very compelling characters to me to overlook the things I don’t like.
As for the travelling, things might be changing for me with the boyfriend leaving the marine corps. I am a very rooted person but, seeing the lack of stability and the constant change of scenery in the show help me internalize what it might be like to live somewhere new and very different, which, trust me, leaving the Bay Area will be a very scary thing for me.

It's actually surprising to me how influential a show's color palette is to me--maybe SV has attuned me to that in ways I don't understand? Though I do watch BSG, which is also very dark--but not always and unrelentingly. I know the color palette is the reason I didn't watch 300, too.
The family drama part of SPN is the part that appeals to me, definitely--and I agree with you that a lot of the horror, at least in the eps I've seen, is tongue-in-cheek. I feel like I *ought* to like this show, given stuff I've liked in the past, so I don't really understand why I don't.

Also, Danger, Will Robinson!! Danger!
Don't do it!! Don't slide into SPN Wincest!!!

Ok, but people are supposed to be pointing me to porn in other directions to assist in restraining me! So far, no one is actually doing that.

I'm not into SPN as a fandom, not sure why, but I do adore the show. As much as I usually like horror, and the darkness doesn't bother me a bit, it's really the sheer humor and sexiness of the two leads that keep me coming back. Some of the dialogue is brilliant and hysterical. Hot boys that can make me roar with laughter will win my heart every time. Wincest neither bothers or attracts me, but their on screen canon relationship is so sincere, it makes me care, really care.
So, um.. sorry I can't help you out here.

Run with the J2. J2 is all that is good about the world. FFS, the damn stuff writes itself.

And yeah, Dean Winchester is like catnip for fangirls, isn't he?

You tempt me to disagree just so I could read what you'd say. :D
Regarding your porn recs, I am sorry to say that I could only suggest that there should be a monthly (weekly?) multifandom porn roundup. *nods sagely*
It's rife with difficulty to think of post-s6 SV porn given the way the season ended. I don't know how people saw the finale in terms of fic, but it seems to me that we are left with main characters being in too much trouble to properly envision them having plotless sexing. Now THAT is the real tragedy of it, regardless of who may end up permanently dead in the S7 premiere... Less (or nil) canon-compatible orgy possibilities in the horizon, ala-Romany's Détente (http://romanyg.livejournal.com/tag/fic:+detente). Which reminds me, I have to catch up on her fics! And all those porn battle fics (http://battle4.oxoniensis.org/fandom.html) too! *excitedly scampers away*

Really? Because I see a bunch of possibilities: Bizarro going after Lex and Clark having to rescue him, leading to sex; Bizarro actually seducing Lex (since he has the opposite emotions of Clark, and Clark right now hates Lex thinking he killed Lana), and Clark discovers them and is furious but also unexpectedly jealous; or Clark discovers that Lionel (or someone else) is behind Lana's death, and goes to apologize to Lex, and they end up comforting each other. And those are just a few off the top of my head.
