norwich36: (pretty porn)

Hiatus is too long, OR, I may need an intervention

Dear my wonderful f-list,

Hiatus is TOO LONG and not enough Smallville porn is being written. For this reason I have strayed to reading HP porn and DCU porn and Buffy porn and occasionally even SGA porn, which is within the realm of acceptability, but something bad is starting to happen.

I am having dreams about Dean Winchester. Dreams as in the hot sex kind of dreams. Which lead to daydreams. And as the Catholic Church will tell you, you're not responsible for your dream dreams, but daydreams involve willful intent, and you are therefore morally culpable for any fantasies involving hot Winchester boys.

But it is even worse than that. I've started seeking out the fic. Oh, sure, it started innocently enough, with long SPN gen stories, and even J2 RPS, which hadn't exactly been my cup of tea, but I'd certainly read enough CW:RPS with Mike and Tommy, so it didn't really feel like I was straying, but then tonight I found myself actually (a) seeking out Wincest (ok, it was by musesfool, and she's one of about 5 authors I'll read anything by, and plus it had girl!Sam, and I'm very into genderfuck at the moment, but still) and (b) contemplating renting SPN DVDs to see if maybe I can stand the show after all, considering the hotass factor.

You see? It can only go downhill from here. I need an intervention. OR NON-SPN PORN RECS, PLEASE! If I get sucked into SPN fandom, certain people will never speak to me again (eyes [livejournal.com profile] mskatej), and I will lose all my hard-earned "I am not going to fall for a show I don't like just for the sake of pretty boys" cred.*** So please, for the love of me, send me porny recs in any of the following fandoms: Smallville, DCU, the 4400, Buffy, Angel, Harry Potter, Kyle XY, Burn Notice, Psych, or anything else you can think of that is not SPN.

Yours in a certain amount of terror,

Nora

*** Do not mention Smallville in trying to attack my ""I'm not going to fall for a show just for the sake of the pretty" cred, or I will be forced to respond with tl;dr comments about how I find DEEP and MEANINGFUL themes hidden in the visual symbolism of the show that go beyond the gorgeous cast to evoke archetypes that can be found in LOTS OF GREAT LITERATURE. Like Star Wars and other Joseph Campell-inspired ripoffs of Jung who was probably just misreading Frazer anyway. Because I always go for the DEEP and MEANINGFUL over AMAZING HOTNESS shallow and pretty. This is well documented by the icon I have chosen for this post.

On the other hand, if you want to tempt me with hot SPN or J2 recs, feel free--just don't tell Kate!!!

[Hocus pocus] Kate, please to be ignoring that comment above. [/hocus pocus]

Why don't you have SPN recs up? I'm looking forward to them.

I've actually tried to watch SPN on multiple occasions, and despite the very high hotness factor, for some reason it has never clicked for me. But maybe if I read more fic that will change.

Because I not only have to code them, but find something intelligent to say about them to make people understand why they MUST NEED read them - and I really hate writing :oP

Dude, try again: you may come for the hotness factor, but I swear you'll stay for the emo-porn. THESE GUYS WOULD LITERALLY DIE FOR EACH OTHER!

Yeah, I get that just from reading meta, not to mention the fic. My problems with the show, though, may be insuperable:

(A) The cinematography is so grim. It's literally such a dark show, color- palette-wise, and that always depresses me and makes me not want to watch.

(B) I have real problems with shows where the protagonists are constantly being put in unfamiliar situations. It makes me tense for reasons I can't explain. For this reason I don't do very well with shows that involve a lot of travelling to new places (SGA, many varieties of ST, and similarly-themed shows.) I know it's weird, and probably related to my deep social anxiety issues, but there it is.

(C) I don't actually like horror. I have been known to watch it on occasion (Buffy, X-files), but usually only when there are vampires or I love the writing so much it overcomes my distaste for the genre. Unfortunately, with SPN, even though I've heard many good things about the writing, this hasn't happened--and I have watched at least 7 or 8 episodes, which is more than I give most shows I can't get into. So I honestly think the hotness factor will only take me so far.

However, sometimes good fan writing can make me fall in love with things I thought I hated, so I suppose it is still possible I will be converted.

(A) Fans have complained ad nauseum about that - apparently, so have executive Powers That Be, *g*.

(B) But it's ok, because it's all about SamandDean. And the Impala. Those are the stables, and they are good stables. It's the epic love story of Sam and Dean - ONE OF THE WRITERS SAYS SO HERSELF, WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT :o) ??

(C) I like horror to a certain degree, though I'm more into psychological horror than gore. It got way better in S2, but some episodes in S1 freaked me the fuck out! Like "Scarecrow", gah!! (But it's an awesome episode.)

I have been known to watch it on occasion (Buffy, X-files), but usually only when there are vampires
Sajksakljdskl: Amber Benson guest-stars in a vampire episode in S2!! I highly recommend it, one of my favorite. (FYI, SPN vampires are not like Buffy vampires.)

That all aside, sometimes fanon just works better for you than canon - cf. in my case: DS and SV :o)

I'm pretty sure I watched at least half of the Amber Benson episode, but it didn't seem to make an impression. :-( I also watched that episode Fred from Angel was on, back in s1, and I recently watched the episode Six from BSG was on. And I think I saw the Scarecrow episode, too.

It may just be a show where I love the fanon, not the canon.

(Though I'm surprised you don't like DS canon--I would rank DS right after Buffy in terms of my "shows where I love canon like burning.")

I love the idea of DS, I really, really do, but actual episodes often fall short of how I wish they had been done. Much like SV, in fact.
