Tonight's TV

The Good Wife
I watched this mostly because I love Christine Baranski, though as it turns out I don't really like the character she's playing. This has the possibility of being a good drama, though; Julianna Margulies was terrific--I think this is the best role I've ever seen her in, and it has the always enjoyable Josh Charles. I also really liked the woman playing the detective for the law firm.

I'm not sure about the premise. I loved getting to see behind the facade of a woman in her situation--that's really intriguing--but I suspect other than that this is just going to become another lawyer show, and I really don't really go for real-life drama in my entertainment unless I *really* love one or more of the characters, and so far that's none of them. I did love her face-off against the new states' attorney, though, and her declaration of war. I don't know--I think I may watch this one on the rare Tuesday nights I happen to be home, but I'm not going to record it or anything.

The Forgotten
This is actually on at the same time as "The Good Wife," but I get CBS an hour early on one of my cable stations and was bored afterward, so I gave it a chance. I would have to say don't bother watching this, unless you really really love procedural crime shows. The only differences between this and every other crime show out there are (a) Christian Slater (who unfortunately didn't do much for me here); (b) the fact that the group doing the investigating are private people, not cops; and (c) a REALLY REALLY ANNOYING voiceover by the dead person. So basically I was bored.

I really wanted to like The Forgotten, but it was so damned boring. It was extremely slow paced and none of the characters did a thing for me.

I switched channels between this and The Good Wife. Not sure I'm going to invest any time in this either. I mean once the novelty of the cheated on wife is gone, is this evenly remotely interesting?

Yes, to both of those. Way too slow paced, and the characters--even Christian Slater's--were dull as dishwater.

I should have gone to bed at 10, but since I was staying up too late anyway, I watched The Good Wife. I think it was massively misadvertised. It is pretty much a regular old lawyer show, and, yes, her being the politician's wife is the twist, but it's not particularly important. I probably won't keep up with it. I didn't even know Christine Baranski and Josh Charles were in it, but I was delighted to see them, even if Josh's character isn't particularly different from Dan. I also loved the in-house investigator. She was awesome, and I really liked the way she and Julianna's character bonded - nice to see women as allies on TV (especially since Christine's character turns out to be fake bonding).

Yeah, I loved the real bonding with the detective. I also really loved how Julianna's character's experience not only helped her understand the client she was defending, but also give her real-life strategies for coping with the public shaming she was experiencing.

Still, like you said, it looks like it'll mainly be a boring lawyer show. Blah.

I was surprised by how much I liked The Good Wife; it seemed more-character-driven instead of just another procedural. I hope they stick to that format, though you're probably right that they won't.

Well, they might. But even if only 2/3 of the episode is legal case stuff, that really isn't what I was hoping for in that show.
